Global oil prices fell on Tuesday as investors awaited clarity on the possibility of fresh U.S.-Iran talks in Doha. Brent crude futures fell nearly 1% to $72.5 a barrel, while U.S. West Texas Intermediate (WTI) crude futures saw a smaller decline, slipping 0.5% to $70.4 a barrel.
Market participants are weighing the prospects of a thaw in tensions after U.S. President Donald Trump said a meeting with Iran in Doha could take place, although Iran’s foreign ministry denied that any negotiations with the United States were scheduled in the coming days.
Despite uncertainty, oil producers in the Middle East continue to load crude oil and liquefied natural gas (LNG), and shipping through the Strait of Hormuz continues to normalise and recover.
