Mumbai, June 9: Petrol and diesel prices remained largely stable across metros and state capitals on Tuesday. While fuel rates were unchanged in key cities such as New Delhi, Kolkata and Chandigarh, modest increases were recorded in Bengaluru, Chennai and Lucknow. Bengaluru registered the sharpest rise in both petrol and diesel prices, while Jaipur saw the steepest decline. Variations in fuel prices continued to be driven by state-specific taxes, VAT rates and local levies.

Brent futures fell about 0.9% at $93.3 per barrel on Tuesday, as easing tensions between Iran and Israel reduced immediate concerns over disruptions to global energy supplies. The decline provided relief to investors after oil’s recent surge driven by fears of a wider conflict in the Middle East.

Despite the pullback, crude prices remain elevated compared with levels seen before the geopolitical flare-up, with traders continuing to monitor developments in the region closely. Lower oil prices could ease pressure on inflation and fuel import costs for major consuming nations such as India, though renewed volatility cannot be ruled out if tensions resurface.

Petrol Prices

Petrol prices remained largely stable across metros and state capitals on Tuesday. New Delhi, Kolkata, Gurgaon, Chandigarh and Thiruvananthapuram saw no change in fuel rates, while small increases were seen in Chennai, Bengaluru, Hyderabad and Lucknow. Petrol in Delhi continued to retail at Rs 102.12 per litre, compared with Rs 113.47 in Kolkata, Rs 111.18 in Mumbai and Rs 108.01 in Chennai.

Bengaluru registered the sharpest increase, with petrol prices rising by 28 paise to Rs 110.89 per litre. On the other hand, Jaipur clocked the biggest decline, with rates falling 46 paise to Rs 112.89 per litre. Bhubaneswar, Noida and Patna also witnessed modest reductions. Hyderabad remained the costliest among the major cities at Rs 115.73 per litre, closely followed by Thiruvananthapuram at Rs 115.49, while Chandigarh continued to offer the lowest petrol price at Rs 101.54 per litre. The variations in fuel prices across states are primarily driven by differences in local taxes, VAT rates and transportation costs.

Diesel Prices

Diesel prices remained broadly unchanged across most Indian metro cities and state capitals on Tuesday, with only minor revisions reported in a handful of locations. Rates were unchanged in New Delhi, Kolkata, Mumbai, Gurgaon, Chandigarh, Hyderabad and Thiruvananthapuram, while Chennai, Bengaluru and Lucknow saw modest increases. Diesel continued to retail at Rs 95.20 per litre in Delhi, Rs 99.82 in Kolkata, Rs 97.83 in Mumbai and Rs 99.78 in Chennai.

Among the cities tracked, Bengaluru recorded the highest increase of 26 paise, taking diesel prices to Rs 98.80 per litre, while Jaipur saw the steepest decline, with rates falling 41 paise to Rs 97.98 per litre. Bhubaneswar, Noida and Patna also registered small reductions. Thiruvananthapuram remained the costliest market at Rs 104.40 per litre, followed by Hyderabad at Rs 103.82, whereas Chandigarh continued to have the lowest diesel price at Rs 89.47 per litre. Differences in state-level taxes, VAT rates and local levies continue to drive the variation in fuel prices across cities.
