Mumbai, October 6: Petrol and diesel prices remained largely unchanged across major Indian cities on Tuesday, October 6, with petrol costing ₹102.12 per litre and diesel ₹95.20 per litre in Delhi. Chandigarh was the only city in the list to record a change in fuel prices, with petrol rising ₹4.39 per litre and diesel increasing ₹6.35 per litre.

Oil prices rose in Asian trade on Tuesday after falling nearly 2% in the previous session, as traders weighed recovering Middle Eastern exports and a planned release of emergency reserves against persistent geopolitical risks in the Gulf.

Brent crude was up 0.4% at $100.7 per barrel while West Texas Intermediate was up 0.3% at $89.7.

Brent crude had settled 1.9% lower at $100.32 a barrel on Monday, while West Texas Intermediate declined 1.84% to $89.43.

The earlier decline came after crude exports from the Middle East exceeded pre-war levels on four days in the final week of September, easing immediate concerns over supply. The G7 has also agreed to release 100 million barrels of crude and diesel from emergency stockpiles, adding to expectations of improved availability.

However, supply concerns have not disappeared. Attacks by Yemen’s Iran-backed Houthi forces on targets in Saudi Arabia, including an Aramco refinery, have kept traders alert to the risk of fresh disruptions in supplies from the world’s largest oil exporter. The lack of a diplomatic breakthrough in US-Iran talks is also keeping the geopolitical risk premium elevated.

For India, crude prices remain a key factor for equities and the rupee given the country’s dependence on imported oil. A sustained move above $100 a barrel could keep pressure on inflation and corporate margins, while any further easing in prices would offer some relief to oil-importing sectors and the broader economy.
