Mumbai, October 7: Fuel prices remained largely unchanged across major Indian cities on Wednesday, October 7, with petrol retailing at ₹102.12 per litre in Delhi and diesel at ₹95.20 per litre. While rates were steady across the four metros, Chandigarh, Hyderabad and Jaipur recorded changes in petrol and diesel prices.
Oil prices rose on Wednesday as concerns over potential supply disruptions from a storm approaching US oil-producing regions and escalating attacks in Saudi Arabia outweighed an increase in Middle East crude shipments. Brent crude futures rose 0.9% to $101.5 a barrel, while US West Texas Intermediate crude gained 0.8% to $90.2.
A storm forming in the Gulf of Mexico is expected to become the first Atlantic hurricane of 2026 within two days, with forecasters warning that it could hit oil and gas production facilities. Offshore areas in its projected path account for around 15% of US crude production and 5% of natural gas output. The storm could also affect six refineries, with refineries in the US Gulf states accounting for about half of the country’s total refining capacity.
US crude inventories also fell by 2.09 million barrels in the week ended October 2, according to data cited from the American Petroleum Institute, while gasoline stocks also declined. At the same time, oil supply from the Middle East has been increasing, with around 12 million barrels per day of crude and 2 million bpd of refined products shipped out of the region over the past seven to 10 days.
Oil markets also remained on edge after Saudi Arabia’s airports in Jazan and Najran were targeted in attacks on Monday, as fighting involving Yemen’s Iran-backed Houthi rebels escalated. The attacks come as Saudi-backed Yemeni government forces push to retake territory from the Houthis, with Riyadh stepping up airstrikes.
Analysts expect crude prices to remain elevated as refinery disruptions and geopolitical risks tighten the market. They said prices could stay near the $100-a-barrel level without a material de-escalation. For oil-importing economies such as India, sustained crude prices above $100 could add to inflationary pressures and weigh on the rupee and corporate margins.
Here are the latest petrol and diesel rates in Delhi, Mumbai, Kolkata, Chennai and other major cities.
