Wednesday, December 10, 2025: Prime Minister Narendra Modi delivered a speech at the Hindustan Times Leadership Summit a few days ago. Out of the multiple aspects covered during the speech, one critical aspect he touched on was based on: your money, your right campaign.

The Prime Minister underlined the आपकी पूंजीआपका अधिकार – Your Money, Your Right initiative, which was launched in October 2025, that focuses on identification and transfer of rightful owners of unclaimed money in banks, insurance companies, and mutual fund AMCs.

Crores of Rupees Remain Unclaimed

The PM noted that around ₹78,000 crore remains unclaimed in Indian banks, whereas insurance companies have around ₹14000 lying unclaimed. In addition, he stated that Mutual fund companies have approximately ₹3000 crore that has not been claimed so far, and dividends worth around ₹9000 crore are also unclaimed.

The Prime Minister stated that the amounts lying unclaimed is quite substantial, and that these assets represent the hard-earned savings and investments of countless families. In order to correct this, the Your Money, Your Right initiative was launched in October 2025. The aim is to ensure every citizen can reclaim what is rightfully his or hers.

The Your Money, Your Right Campaign

The government has launched this campaign with a view to encouraging and empowering citizens to recover their assets and deposits. Individuals need to verify if their close family members or relatives have unclaimed deposits, insurance proceeds, mutual-fund payouts, or dividends. To facilitate this, the government has created dedicated portals as follows:

  • Reserve Bank of India (RBI) – UDGAM Portal for unclaimed bank deposits & balances: https://udgam.rbi.org.in/unclaimed-deposits/
  • Insurance Regulatory and Development Authority of India (IRDAI) – Bima Bharosa Portal for unclaimed insurance policy proceeds: https://bimabharosa.irdai.gov.in/
  • Securities and Exchange Board of India (SEBI) – MITRA Portal for unclaimed amounts in mutual funds: https://app.mfcentral.com/
  • Ministry of Corporate Affairs, IEPFA Portal for unpaid dividends & unclaimed shares: https://www.iepf.gov.in/

On Ground Reach and Facilitation Camps

The PM also shared that the government has increased the on-ground reach through facilitation camps organised in 77 districts, spanning urban as well as remote rural regions. The PM also noted that with the efforts of the central government, regulatory bodies, banks and other financial institutions, nearly Rs. 2,000 crore has already been returned to the rightful owners.

The PM further said “We want to scale up this movement in the coming days. And, for that to happen, I request you for assistance on the following: Check whether you or your family have unclaimed deposits, insurance proceeds, dividends or investments. Visit the portals I have mentioned above. Make use of facilitation camps in your district. Act now to claim what is yours and convert a forgotten financial asset into a new opportunity. Your money is yours. Let us make sure that it finds its way back to you. Together, let us build a transparent, financially empowered and inclusive India!”.
