Nifty Stages Sharp 250-Point Recovery from Day’s Low, Ends FlatNifty extended its winning streak to a third consecutive session but ended almost unchanged, gaining just 4 points to close at 24,211. The index opened sharply lower by 168 points and slipped further in early trade before staging a strong intraday comeback. It recovered nearly 250 points from the day’s low of 24,000, erasing all losses and ending marginally higher. NSE cash market volumes were broadly in line with the previous session.
Among Nifty constituents, IT stocks led the recovery. Tata Consultancy Services (TCS), HCL Technologies, and Tech Mahindra emerged as the top gainers, while Grasim Industries, Tata Steel, and Nestlé India were the key laggards.
Sectoral performance remained mixed. IT, Media, and Auto indices ended with healthy gains, while FMCG, Metal, and Healthcare closed in the red.
Broader markets mirrored the benchmark indices, recovering from early weakness to end marginally higher. The Nifty Midcap 100 and Nifty Smallcap 100 gained 0.02% and 0.25%, respectively. Market breadth remained constructive, with the BSE advance-decline ratio improving to 1.13, indicating that advancing stocks continued to outnumber decliners.
The Indian rupee weakened sharply, depreciating 30 paise to close at 95.62 against the U.S. dollar. Higher crude oil prices and renewed geopolitical tensions weighed on the domestic currency, making it one of the weakest-performing Asian currencies during the session.
Technically, Nifty found strong support near its 20-day DEMA at 24,029, reinforcing it as an important short-term support zone. Despite the sharp intraday rebound, the index continues to trade within a consolidation range.
Going forward, 24,300 remains the immediate resistance level, while the 24,000 zone continues to act as crucial support. A decisive breakout above 24,300 could open the door toward 24,530, the previous swing high. Conversely, a sustained break below 24,000 may trigger a retest of the 23,800 support area.
