Nifty Rises Over 100 Points on Broad-Based Buying; PSU Bank Index Soars Over 3.5%
After two consecutive sessions of decline, the Nifty rebounded strongly, gaining 119 points to close at 23,243. The index opened higher by 136 points but failed to sustain early gains, slipping over 150 points from the morning high.
However, a sharp recovery in the second half helped the index end near the day’s high. NSE cash market turnover rose 13% compared to the previous session, indicating improved participation.
Among Nifty constituents, IndiGo, Jio Financial, and SBI led the gains, while Titan, ONGC, and NTPC were among the top laggards. Barring Nifty IT and Media, all sectoral indices closed in the green, with PSU Banks, Bank Nifty, and Realty emerging as the key outperformers.
Broader markets mirrored the positive momentum seen in the benchmarks, with the Nifty Midcap 100 and Smallcap 100 advancing 1.35% and 1.70%, respectively. Market breadth strengthened significantly, as reflected in the BSE advance-decline ratio, which rose to 1.97, its highest level in a month.
The Indian rupee appreciated by 36 paise to close at 95.35 against the dollar, supported by a risk-on sentiment driven by a weaker US dollar and softer crude oil prices amid easing geopolitical concerns.
Additionally, renewed inflows into the debt market, following recent RBI measures, lent further support to the currency.
Technically, Nifty managed to hold above the previous session’s low of 23,070, which is a constructive sign indicating buying interest at lower levels. However, the current rebound is not sufficient to confirm a trend reversal.
For a bullish trend reversal, Nifty needs to decisively move above the recent swing high of 23,516, which would weaken the prevailing downtrend structure.
On the downside, the 23,000–23,100 zone is expected to act as a strong support area in the near term. A break below 23,000 could accelerate declines toward the 22,700–22,800 zone.
