Mumbai, July 3, 2025 – Reliance Jio has pulled ahead of its rivals once again in adding active subscribers, further cementing its stronghold in the Indian telecom space.

Jio’s Market Share Hits 53% on Active Subscriber Strength

  • Reliance Jio has grown its active subscriber market share by 150 basis points over the past 12 months.
  • With this gain, Jio’s market share now stands at 53%.
  • The growth was largely fuelled by a 200 basis point increase in B-Circle regions.
  • Jio continues to stay ahead of Bharti Airtel in terms of active subscriber additions.

Thereby, the company has further strengthened its leadership in the Indian telecom market.

Surge in May Additions: 5.5 Million Active Subscribers

Following a brief dip in April, active subscriber additions rebounded strongly in May 2025. Jio added 5.5 million active subscribers, the highest monthly figure in the past 29 months. Its total subscriber base also grew by 2.7 million, with a 1.3 million increase in urban subscribers. Calendar year-to-date (CYTD), Jio has added a total of 19.7 million active subscribers, reflecting strong growth momentum.

Sector-Wide Momentum with Strong Growth in B and A Circles

Overall, the telecom sector added 7.3 million active subscribers in May, taking the total to 1,080 million. B and A Circles led the charge with 9 million new users, accounting for 75% of the total sector base. In contrast, Metro Circles recorded a decline of 1.9 million subscribers.

Bharti Airtel followed Jio with 1.3 million active subscriber additions. Meanwhile, Vodafone Idea’s continued decline is reshaping the competitive landscape, potentially allowing further share gains for both Jio and Bharti.
