Mumbai, September 15, 2025: Maharashtra State Electricity Distribution Company Limited (MSEDCL) has awarded Shakti Pumps (India) Ltd a contract to deliver and set up 34,720 Off-Grid DC Solar Photovoltaic Water Pumping Systems (SPWPS). The order, placed under PM KUSUM B and the Magel Tyala Saur Krushi Pump Yojana, is pegged at roughly around ₹1,037 crore with GST.

Details of the Contract

As per the contract, installations must be carried out by Shakti Pumps within 60 days of the Notice to Proceed or individual work orders, with the empanelment valid for a year. The pumps will be set up in multiple districts of Maharashtra. Previous rounds of this program saw 10,000 units allotted in the first phase (₹268.88 crore) and 12,451 units in the second (₹347.41 crore) all inclusive of GST.

Market Reaction & Stock Movement

The order announcement pushed Shakti Pumps’ stock higher in early sessions, reflecting optimism in the market. The sizeable deal is expected to enhance the company’s order book. The company’s market value stands between ₹10,500 and ₹11,100 crore, and the stock trades currently above its 52-week low though under its 52-week high.

Strategic Significance

By securing this order, Shakti Pumps has further cemented its place in the solar water pump market. The deal signals a stronger demand for agricultural solar infrastructure under state and central schemes. Shakti Pumps long track record in solar and pumping solutions positions it strongly to manage such large-scale assignments on timely basis.

Execution and Challenges

Shakti Pumps will handle everything, from production to supply, transport, installation, testing and commissioning of the pumps. The 60-day deadline for each unit may test the company’s operational efficiency, and could be a challenge, with logistics, timely approvals and manpower availability being the key factors.

Outlook

Growing focus on clean energy and farm sustainability could mean more such large contracts in the future. For Shakti Pumps, this empanelment order secures its revenue outlook. The pace and success of execution will be closely tracked and could be a key in meeting government goals under PM KUSUM B and farm power initiatives.
