Mumbai, July 13: Silver prices dipped in India on Monday, reversing part of the previous session’s gains as the white metal pared some of its gains from earlier last week. Ten gram silver traded at Rs 2,350 in the national market on Monday, Rs 50 lower than Friday’s closing price of Rs 2,400 per 10 grams, according to goodreturns.in.

The white metal had bounced back by Rs 50 per 10 grams on Friday after crashing Rs 99 in the previous session and Monday’s decline indicates that the metal may not have yet bottomed out after witnessing sharp two-way volatility early last week. International trends drive bulk of the price action in silver India while demand from electronics and solar photovoltaic manufacturers at home and seasonal/investment-led buying continue to drive day- to-day price movement of the metal.

In Monday’s business, premium markets Chennai, Hyderabad and Kerala quoted silver at Rs 2,400 per 10 grams, Rs 50 lower than Friday’s price of Rs 2,450 for these cities. The rest of the country, including Mumbai, Delhi, Kolkata, Bangalore, Pune, Vadodara and Ahmedabad were trading at Rs 2,350 per 10 grams on Monday, down Rs 50 from Friday’s closing rate of Rs 2,400.

The fact that both the premium and standard markets traded exactly Rs 50 lower points to Monday’s price fall being a pan India correction instead of being concentrated in one or two markets as was the case during some of the large swings between certain cities earlier last week.

Analysts also pointed out that near-term volatility will remain an intrinsic feature of silver price-action given its reaction to global trade talks and dollar movements but demand from industry as well as strong retail interest on account of the wedding season will continue to provide underlying support to prices in the medium-term. Please note that the above-mentioned prices are indicative, and the rates charged by jewellers are usually about 3 percent higher than shown here due to GST. Making charges will be additional and vary depending on the design.

Gold prices slipped on Monday, trimming gains posted on Friday as traders square-off positions across the yellow and white metals. Gold of 24 karat purity was trading Rs 130 lower to Rs 1,44,320 for 10 grams on Monday across India, while 22 karat gold declined Rs 120 to Rs 1,32,290 per 10 grams.

18 karat gold was down Rs 100 to Rs 1,08,240 per 10 grams, also tracking silver’s move lower on Monday. Gold and silver had both surged on Friday as buying returned to both metals on easing dollar and better risk appetite following bouts of selling earlier in the week. Both metals likely to continue reacting to global cues in the days ahead.
