Silver Drops After Holding Steady
Tuesday’s fall breaks the short pause in Chennai’s silver market. Rates had held at ₹2,40,000 per kg on July 12 and July 13, but the latest revision has taken silver back to ₹2,35,000 per kg.
The recent correction is more visible when seen against the start of the 10-day period. Silver was priced at ₹2,60,000 per kg on July 5, fell to ₹2,50,000 on July 6, and has gradually moved lower since then, with brief pauses along the way.

Using the current silver rate and assuming 12% making charges along with 3% GST, the estimated purchase cost works out as follows:
| Component | Amount |
| Base value | ₹2,350 |

This is an indicative calculation. Actual billing may differ depending on making charges, design, wastage and retailer-specific pricing.
Chennai Silver Price Trend
The last 10 days show a clear softening in Chennai’s silver rates. The metal was at ₹2,60,000 per kg on July 5, which is the highest level visible in the recent table. It then dropped by ₹10,000 per kg on July 6.
After holding at ₹2,50,000 per kg on July 7, silver fell to ₹2,45,000 on July 8 and stayed there on July 9 and July 10. Another decline came on July 11, taking the rate to ₹2,40,000 per kg. Prices remained flat for two days before Tuesday’s fall to ₹2,35,000 per kg.
What Drives Silver Prices?
Silver prices are shaped by global bullion rates, rupee-dollar movement, import costs, industrial demand and local retail buying. The metal is also widely used in electronics, solar equipment and manufacturing, which makes industrial demand an important part of its price movement.
At the retail level, buyers usually pay more than the listed metal rate because making charges and GST are added separately.
Conclusion
Silver prices in Chennai declined on July 14, with rates falling to ₹235 per gram and ₹2,35,000 per kg. The latest drop continues the broader easing seen over the past 10 days. For buyers, the lower rate may offer some relief, but the final bill will still depend on making charges, GST and the retailer’s billing policy.
