Mumbai, July 22: Silver rates in India stand at Rs 2,400 per 10 grams on Wednesday, translating to Rs 240 per gram and Rs 2,40,000 per kilogram at the national level. Silver price in India is determined by international prices, which move in either direction through the trading day based on global cues, alongside the rupee-dollar rate and domestic demand from the industrial and jewellery segments. Compared to Tuesday’s national rate of Rs 2,350 per 10 grams, Wednesday’s price marks a gain of Rs 50, with the metal extending its recent climb even as bullion dealers flagged that daily swings have stayed sharp through the week.

Bullion dealers cited a combination of renewed safe-haven buying and steady industrial offtake supporting silver prices on Wednesday. Industrial demand for silver, which features widely in electronics manufacturing as well as solar photovoltaic panels, has remained robust even as prices have trended higher over the last month. To the quoted national rate, buyers must also add the basic import duty the government charges on the metal, along with state-level levies that get factored into the final price seen at bullion counters.

City-wise rates have moved higher in step with the national benchmark on Wednesday, though a familiar premium has returned at a few centres. Chennai leads the pack at Rs 2,450 per 10 grams, up Rs 100 from Monday’s Rs 2,350, while Hyderabad and Kerala have both jumped to Rs 2,450, up Rs 101 each from Monday’s Rs 2,349. Mumbai, Delhi, Kolkata, Bangalore, Pune, Vadodara and Ahmedabad have all moved up Rs 50 from Monday’s Rs 2,350 to settle at Rs 2,400 per 10 grams on Wednesday, keeping these seven centres exactly in line with the national figure. Unlike Monday, when rates across most centres had converged tightly around the benchmark, Wednesday’s move has reopened a modest gap between Chennai, Hyderabad and Kerala on one side and the rest of the country on the other, though the spread remains far narrower than the divergence seen in past weeks. Traders said the renewed premium at these three centres likely reflects local demand and dealer positioning rather than any structural shift in the broader market.

Gold Prices Today

Gold prices climbed sharply in India on Wednesday, with the national benchmark for 24 karat gold rising to Rs 1,46,510 per 10 grams, up Rs 3,040 from Tuesday’s close. 22 karat gold advanced to Rs 1,34,300 per 10 grams, a gain of Rs 2,790, while 18 karat gold moved up to Rs 1,09,880 per 10 grams, higher by Rs 2,280. The sharp single-day jump has been driven by renewed safe-haven demand amid ongoing Middle East tensions and a softer dollar index, breaking a range-bound trend that had held through most of July. Traders expect gold to stay sensitive to US Fed commentary and further developments in the Iran-US standoff through the rest of the week.

Bullion dealers said the joint rise in gold and silver on Wednesday reflects a broader flight to safety this week, with steady industrial demand for silver lending additional support even as prices trend higher. Both metals are expected to remain sensitive to these triggers for the rest of the week, dealers said, with escalation between Iran and the US likely to push safe-haven demand for gold and silver further, while healthy industrial buying could keep silver supported even if geopolitical tensions ease. Local taxes, making charges and the applicable 3 per cent GST are additional levies that need to be factored on top of quoted rates, and bullion traders recommended individuals confirm live rates with their jeweller before buying or selling, as rates can change within the course of a trading day.
