Mumbai, June 1, 2025 – Tata Motors registered total sales of 70,187 units in May 2025, reflecting an 8.6% decline from 76,766 units in the same month last year. The drop was primarily driven by weaker domestic demand across both commercial and passenger vehicle segments.

Domestic Sales Performance

Domestic sales fell to 67,429 units in May 2025, down 10% from 75,173 units in May 2024. The company faced broad-based declines across several product categories.

Commercial Vehicles (CV)

Total commercial vehicle sales stood at 28,147 units, a 5% drop year-on-year.

  • Heavy Commercial Vehicles (HCVs): 7,106 units sold, down 10% YoY
  • Intermediate, Light & Medium CVs (ILMCVs): 4,954 units, up 11% YoY
  • Passenger Carriers: Flat at 4,748 units
  • Small CVs and Pickups: 9,064 units, down 20% YoY

Domestic CV sales were 25,872 units, down 9%, while international business (CV IB) surged 87% to 2,275 units.

The combined sales of Medium & Heavy Commercial Vehicles (MH&ICV), including both trucks and buses, reached 13,614 units globally, slightly up from 13,532 units in May 2024.

Passenger Vehicles (PV)

Passenger vehicle sales declined 11% YoY to 42,040 units in May 2025.

  • Domestic PV Sales (including EVs): 41,557 units, down 11% YoY
  • International PV Business (PV IB): 483 units, up 28% YoY
  • Total Electric Vehicle Sales (Domestic + IB): 5,685 units, marking a modest 2% increase

These figures include contributions from Tata Motors Passenger Vehicles Limited and Tata Passenger Electric Mobility Limited, both subsidiaries of the parent company.

Outlook

While international sales showed some resilience, particularly in the commercial segment and electric vehicles, domestic demand softness across key categories weighed on Tata Motors’ overall performance in May 2025. The company continues to navigate a challenging market environment amid evolving customer demand and macroeconomic conditions.
