Tata Motors Shares Dip Following 11% Drop In May Passenger Vehicle Sales

Shares of Tata Motors Ltd (NSE: TATAMOTORS) have declined by nearly 3% since the announcement of its May 2025 monthly sales report, which showed a broad-based contraction in domestic vehicle volumes.
How did sales perform in May 2025?
The company reported total sales of 70,187 units in May 2025, compared to 76,766 units in May 2024, marking a YoY decline of 9%. Key segment-wise performance:
- Passenger Vehicles (PV): 42,040 units vs 47,075 units in May 2024 (-11% YoY)
- Commercial Vehicles (CV): 28,147 units vs 29,691 units (-5% YoY)
- Domestic Sales: 67,429 units vs 75,173 units (-10% YoY)
Within the commercial vehicle category, Small Commercial Vehicles (SCV) and pickups declined 20%, while Heavy Commercial Vehicles (HCV) fell 10% year-on-year. However, the international business for CVs posted an 87% increase, and electric vehicle sales rose marginally by 2%.
