Tata Power Signs Bhutan Clean Energy MoU; Shares Decline 2.13%

Tata Power signed an MoU with Bhutan’s Druk Green Power Corporation to support development of 5,000 MW clean energy capacity, while shares traded lower on May 18.

Mumbai, May 18: Tata Power Company signed a Memorandum of Understanding with Bhutan’s Druk Green Power Corporation Ltd to establish a skill development ecosystem supporting the development of 5,000 MW clean energy capacity in Bhutan.
The company said the agreement was signed in Thimphu between Tata Power and Druk Green Power Corporation (DGPC), Bhutan’s sole power generation utility, according to a company press release.
The partnership aims to create a structured training framework to develop a future-ready workforce capable of supporting operation and maintenance requirements for large-scale clean energy assets under the ongoing collaboration between the two entities.
According to the release, training programmes will be delivered through the Tata Power Skill Development Institute (TPSDI), leveraging its expertise in power sector skilling and technical certification.
The MoU signing ceremony was attended by Bhutan Prime Minister Lyonchhen Tshering Tobgay. The agreement was formally signed by Tata Power CEO and managing director Dr Praveer Sinha and DGPC managing director Dasho Chewang Rinzin.
Tata Power stated that the initiative will include phased implementation of workforce training programmes covering safety induction, technical skill development, construction operations and long-term clean energy asset maintenance.
The company added that DGPC plans to expand Bhutan’s hydro and solar power generation capacity through investments in renewable and small hydro projects over the next decade.

Tata Power share price traded lower during morning trade on May 18. The stock was trading at ₹398.35, down 2.13% from the previous close, as of 10:51 AM IST.
According to market data, the stock opened at ₹404.60 while the day’s low stood at ₹397. The company’s market was around ₹1.27 lakh crore.
