Mumbai, August 24: PC Jeweller, Bajaj Hindusthan Sugar, Vishal Mega Mart and Vodafone Idea were the most actively traded stocks by volume on the NSE on Monday. Strong gains were clocked in PC Jeweller and Bajaj Hindusthan Sugar. Vishal Mega Mart rallied after a management development. Vodafone Idea rose over its turnaround strategy.

PC Jeweller Limited (up 4.11%)

Shares of PC Jeweller rose sharply on Monday, extending its momentum, the jeweller having risen 8.7% in a week.

The company on August 18 highlighted continued progress under its debt-settlement programme, saying it has been steadily reducing its consortium debt since entering into a settlement agreement with lenders in September 2024.

PC Jeweller said it had cleared all debt owed to one more consortium lender, taking the number of banks whose dues have been settled to eight out of 14.

The company said the repayments were completed ahead of their due dates, as part of its plan to become debt-free in the current quarter.

The latest move comes after a strong first quarter for the jewellery retailer.

Also, the board had approved a proposal in July to raise up to 1,000 crore through a qualified institutional placement (QIP)

Further lender clearances, progress towards becoming debt-free and the proposed QIP will be closely watched.

Bajaj Hindusthan Sugar Limited (up 10.25%)

Bajaj Hindusthan Sugar shares rebounded on Monday after declining in the previous session, following the government’s decision to allow duty-free imports of up to 1 million metric tonnes of raw sugar.

The government has allowed the imports until October 31, 2026, marking India’s first significant sugar imports in nearly a decade. The move is aimed at boosting supplies and bringing down sugar prices.

Domestic sugar prices have surged in recent months and the government has also introduced stockholding restrictions for dealers as part of efforts to contain prices.

Vishal Mega Mart Limited (up 8.83%)

Vishal Mega Mart shares jumped on Monday after the company reappointed Gunender Kapur as Managing Director and CEO for another five years

A global broker retained Overweight rating and implied 41% upside

Vodafone Idea Limited (up 0.86%)

Vodafone Idea shares snapped a losing streak on Monday. Two weeks ago the telecom operator had reaffirmed its three-year turnaround strategy.

A key pillar of the turnaround is a 45,000-crore investment in the network over the next three years

The company plans to add around 3,500 4G sites every month and expand 4G coverage across 17 key circles over the next 18 months. It also aims to take 5G services to more than 200 additional cities over the next two quarters.

The operator is targeting double-digit revenue growth over the three-year period and aims to triple its cash EBITDA.

The company is in discussions with lenders to secure additional funding for network expansion and other requirements. It has already secured a 6,400-crore funding tranche and placed network equipment orders worth around 9,000 crore.

Equipment deliveries and deployment are expected over the next two quarters or earlier.

CEO Abhijit Kishore had expressed confidence in the turnaround strategy.

The government’s conversion of Vodafone Idea’s telecom dues into equity has made it the largest shareholder.

The turnaround strategy follows Vodafone Idea’s first-quarter results which saw the company narrowing its loss on rising average revenue per user.
