Mumbai, August 26: Vodafone Idea, PC Jeweller, Viyash Scientific and Sagility emerged as the most actively traded counters by volume on the NSE on Wednesday. Vodafone Idea slipped 0.53% after gains in the previous session, while PC Jeweller advanced 0.73%. Viyash Scientific fell 5.69% after more than 10% of its equity changed hands in block deals worth about ₹1,390 crore, while Sagility gained 3.51%.

Vodafone Idea Limited (down 0.53%)

Vodafone Idea declined after rising yesterday. Yesterday reports said Delhi High Court has directed the Income Tax Department to release a ₹53.09-crore refund to Vodafone Idea, relating to assessment years 2003-04 and 2008-14. The amount had remained unpaid for more than two years despite the telecom company securing relief from the tax tribunal in June 2024.

The court has asked the tax authorities to pay the refund, along with applicable interest, by September 30. Failure to meet the deadline would result in additional interest liability for the department, underscoring the court’s concern over the prolonged delay in settling the dues.

Reports that Vodafone Idea is nearing a debt-financing deal with a consortium of public sector banks had lifted investor sentiment around the telecom operator yesterday. The company is said to be in the final stages of securing the facility, with State Bank of India leading the process and expected to disburse its share once other participating lenders clear their respective commitments.

The potential funding comes as Vodafone Idea steps up efforts to execute its three-year turnaround strategy, which focuses on heavy network spending, expanding 4G and 5G coverage and improving financial performance. The company plans to invest ₹45,000 crore in its network over the next three years, add about 3,500 4G sites each month and extend 4G coverage across 17 key circles over the next 18 months. It also aims to roll out 5G services in more than 200 additional cities over the next two quarters.

Vodafone Idea is targeting double-digit revenue growth during the three-year period and expects to triple its cash EBITDA as stronger network coverage and customer metrics support the recovery. The operator has been seeking additional debt funding to finance the expansion, having already secured a ₹6,400-crore tranche and placed network equipment orders worth around ₹9,000 crore. Deliveries and deployment of the equipment are expected over the next two quarters or sooner.

The strategy follows the operator’s first-quarter results, where losses narrowed alongside an improvement in average revenue per user (ARPU), providing early signs that its efforts to stabilise the business are beginning to gain traction.

PC Jeweller Limited (up 0.73%)

PC Jeweller shares gained on Wednesday after declining in the previous session in the wake of shareholders clearing proposals that could give the jewellery retailer greater flexibility to raise fresh capital.

At the company’s general meeting, shareholders approved a proposal to raise the authorised share capital to ₹1,460 crore. The revised structure will include ₹1,200 crore of equity share capital and ₹260 crore of preference share capital.

Investors also approved a plan to raise up to ₹1,000 crore through a Qualified Institutional Placement (QIP). The proposed fundraising could provide PC Jeweller with additional capital to strengthen its balance sheet and fund its expansion plans.

The approvals come as PC Jeweller continues to work on its financial turnaround. The increase in authorised capital creates headroom for future capital raising, while the QIP offers another potential source of funds as the company seeks to improve its financial position and build on its recovery.

Viyash Scientific Limited (down 5.69%)

Over 10% of Viyash Scientific’s equity changed hands in block deals on Wednesday, with the transactions valued at around ₹1,390 crore.

According to stock exchange data, promoter entities held a 61% stake in the company at the end of the June quarter, while public shareholders owned the remaining 39%. The large block transactions come amid a sharp rise in the stock this year.

Despite the day’s decline, the stock has gained 4.5% over a month and has surged 26% so far this year.

Sagility Limited (up 3.51%)

Sagility surged 3.4% today, snapping its two session losing streak. The stock has risen 5% over a week and 10% over a month. This year it has fallen 14%. Over a year it is down 2.7%.
