Mumbai, June 23: Vodafone Idea, Vedanta, Tata Silver ETF and Vedanta Iron & Steel were among the most actively traded stocks on the NSE in Tuesday’s session, with volumes driven by a mix of promoter funding activity, large block deals, commodity weakness and post-listing momentum.
Vodafone Idea (down 1.15%) declined despite announcing a Rs 1,182 crore capital infusion from promoter Aditya Birla Group. Vedanta (down 7.81%) came under pressure after a Rs 2,149 crore block deal triggered selling, while Tata Silver ETF (down 4.81%) tracked a sharp fall in silver prices globally. In contrast, Vedanta Iron & Steel (up 4.99%) hit its 5% upper circuit, extending its post-demerger rally on sustained buying interest.
Vodafone Idea Limited (down 1.15%)
Vodafone Idea share price fell in Tuesday’s trade even after the telecom operator announced a fresh capital infusion of Rs 1,182 crore from its promoter Aditya Birla Group. According to an exchange filing, the Aditya Birla Group has infused Rs 1,182 crore into Vodafone Idea through the allotment of 430 crore warrants to its promoter entity, Suryaja Investments Pte Ltd. The warrants were issued at Rs 11 per unit, with 25% of the issue price paid upfront.
Vedanta Limited (down 7.81%)
Vedanta share price plunged after a large block deal worth about Rs 2,149 crore went through in early trade, triggering heavy selling pressure in the counter. The transaction involved roughly 7.3 crore shares changing hands at around Rs 292 apiece, with market participants widely attributing the trade to promoter entity Twin Star Holdings trimming its stake.
The stock reacted sharply to the development as investors weighed the signal from the promoter stake sale against ongoing concerns around leverage and restructuring within the Vedanta group. The decline added to recent volatility in the counter, with sentiment also influenced by broader post-demerger adjustments, index-related flows and continued scrutiny of promoter-level debt dynamics.
Tata Mutual Fund Tata Silver Exchange Traded Fund (down 4.81%)
Tata Mutual Fund Tata Silver Exchange Traded Fund fell 4.81% in the latest session, tracking a sharp decline in underlying silver prices as precious metals came under renewed pressure in global markets.
Silver prices dropped as much as 3% in international trade, extending recent volatility in the commodity segment amid a stronger US dollar and expectations of tighter monetary policy. The decline in bullion was part of a broader pullback across precious metals, with gold also witnessing weakness, according to market data.
The fall in silver weighed on related asset classes as investors reassessed exposure to commodities following recent gains. Analysts noted that silver continues to remain highly sensitive to macroeconomic cues, including interest rate expectations, dollar movement and industrial demand trends, all of which have contributed to the latest round of selling pressure.
Vedanta Iron and Steel Limited (up 4.99%)
Vedanta Iron & Steel, the best-performing stock among Vedanta’s demerged entities since listing, extended its winning streak to a sixth straight session and hit its 5% upper circuit at Rs 28.10.
The stock has continued to attract strong buying interest since its market debut, standing out among the newly spun-off businesses from the Vedanta group. The sustained rally reflects heightened investor focus on the company’s standalone growth prospects post-demerger.
Vedanta Iron & Steel has operations spanning India and Africa, with a business portfolio covering iron ore exploration, mining and processing. The company also produces a range of downstream steel products, including wire rods, TMT bars, pig iron, ductile iron (DI) pipes, ferro-silicon, cement and metallurgical coke, positioning it as a diversified player across the metals value chain.
