Mumbai, June 25: Trading activity on the NSE was dominated by sharp moves across select high-volume counters, with Vodafone Idea continuing to feature among the most traded stocks even as it extended its decline, while Motherson Sumi Wiring India saw strong buying interest amid an investor meeting-led rally. Precious metal ETFs also remained active in volume terms but stayed under pressure in line with weakness in global bullion prices.
Vodafone Idea Limited, which fell 0.63%, continued its downward trajectory in recent trade. In contrast, Motherson Sumi Wiring India Limited surged 9.12% and emerged as one of the top volume movers, as investor sentiment turned positive ahead of its investor meeting.
Among ETF counters, Tata Mutual Fund’s Silver Exchange Traded Fund declined 3.88% as silver prices weakened globally.
Tata Mutual Fund’s Gold Exchange Traded Fund also ended lower, slipping 1.95% in line with softer bullion prices.
Vodafone Idea Limited (down 0.63%)
Vodafone Idea share price continued its downward trajectory in recent trade.
The stock has also declined 5.2% over the past week, underscoring the persistent negative sentiment surrounding the counter. Even brief recovery attempts during the period have struggled to hold, with selling pressure re-emerging at higher levels and keeping the broader trend tilted lower.
This short-term weakness comes against the backdrop of a much sharper medium-term rally, with the stock having surged nearly 80% in less than three months before recent consolidation and profit-taking set in. The earlier upmove had been driven by a mix of optimism around potential fundraising, regulatory support expectations, and intermittent improvements in sentiment toward the telecom sector. However, analysts have consistently flagged that such sharp rallies in Vodafone Idea tend to attract profit booking given the company’s underlying financial stress and dependence on external capital support.
Motherson Sumi Wiring India Limited (up 9.12%)
Motherson Sumi Wiring India share price zoomed as its investor meeting started today. The company, which sells wiring harnesses to several major carmakers, has risen 9% over a week ahead of the investor meeting and fallen almost 16% this year so far. Over a month, it has risen nearly 5%.
Tata Mutual Fund Tata Silver Exchange Traded Fund (down 3.88%)
Tata Mutual Fund Tata Silver Exchange Traded Fund (ETF) traded under pressure in line with the broader weakness across the precious metals space, as silver prices fell in global markets. The fund mirrored the downside seen in spot and futures silver, reflecting continued profit booking and cautious sentiment in the white metal segment.
The decline comes amid a broader risk-off move in silver, which has been more volatile than gold due to its dual role as both a precious and industrial commodity. This has made silver-linked ETFs, including Tata Silver ETF, more sensitive to shifts in global growth expectations, US dollar strength, and interest rate outlook.
Tata Mutual Fund Tata Gold Exchange Traded Fund (down 1.95%)
Tata Mutual Fund Tata Gold Exchange Traded Fund (ETF) declined in trade, tracking weakness in domestic and international gold prices as the broader precious metals complex came under selling pressure.
The fall in the fund mirrors a softer trend in bullion markets, where gold has been under pressure due to a stronger US dollar and shifting expectations around US Federal Reserve interest rate policy. Fears around the Fed hiking rates later this year continue to weigh on non-yielding assets like gold, prompting intermittent profit booking.
Despite the decline, gold ETFs have shown relatively more resilience compared to silver-linked funds, reflecting gold’s traditional safe-haven appeal in uncertain macroeconomic conditions. However, short-term sentiment remains cautious as investors reassess the near-term direction of inflation, rates, and global growth.
