Market sentiments may get dampened somewhat today by the latest order from US Government to its embassies to not schedule further student visa appointments till further order.
US Secretary of State sends cable to US embassies
US Secretary of State Marco Rubio in a cable to US embassies said that the US government will issue updated guidance on vetting of social media profiles of student visa and exchange visa applicants. Only after this updated guidance has been issued, further student visa appointments can be scheduled. Student visa appointments that have already been scheduled will not be impacted by this order.
The order follows a protest by some professors and students of Harvard University earlier in the day, on Tuesday. This protest was done in support of international students.
India among top senders of international students to USA
India is one of the biggest senders of international students to United States. In 2023-24, India was the top sender of international students to USA in the world. More than 3 lakh students from India are currently studying in USA. A host of Indian companies may therefore get directly or indirectly impacted from this order.
