US Markets Closed the Week in Red

US markets ended the day in red on Friday, 23rd May, 2025. Nasdaq ended the day, down by 188.53 points or 1%. Dow Jones ended the day, down by 256.02 points or 0.61%. S&P 500 ended the day, down by 39.19 points or 0.67%.
50% tariffs on imports from EU deferred
US markets fell on Friday after US President Donald Trump said that 50% tariff on imports from European Union would be imposed from June 1st. Yesterday, however, the US President deferred this increase to July 9th. After this deferral, futures on Dow Jones index jumped.
Asian markets have opened the day on a mixed note
Asian markets have opened the day on a mixed note today. At 8:40 a.m. Indian standard time (IST) Nikkei 225 is up by 168.75 points or 0.45%. Hang Seng is down by 216.63 points or 0.92%. Shanghai composite is up by 0.93 points or 0.028%. South Korean Kospi is up by 35.07 points or 1.35%. SGX is down by 0.070 points or 0.51%.
Indian markets ended the day in green on Friday, 23rd May, 2025. Nifty 50 closed the day, up by 243.45 points or 0.99%. Sensex closed the day, up by 769.09 points or 0.95%. Top gainers at Nifty 50 on Friday were Eternal, HDFC Life and Jio Financial services. Top losers at Nifty 50 were Sun Pharma, Grasim and Bharti Airtel.
