August 19, 2025: VA Tech Wabag Ltd (WABAG), an Indian multinational engaged in water treatment and desalination, has secured a repeat order valued at approximately 5.12 million Bahraini Dinars (around ₹118 crore) from the Ministry of Works, Municipalities Affairs and Urban Planning (MoW), Kingdom of Bahrain. The O&M of the built 40 MLD of Madinat Salman Sewage Treatment Plant (STP) and the Long Sea outfall shall be under contract on a five-year basis.

At 12:20 p.m. IST, the stock of VA Tech Wabag is down by 0.11%, trading at Rs 1,609.10.

Excellence Track Record

WABAG had won the Engineering, Procurement and Construction (EPC) contract of the 40 MLD facility, awarded by the Ministry of Housing, Kingdom of Bahrain in October 2015. The project was executed and completed in 2018 and has been in continuous operation and maintenance by WABAG since November 2018, thus proving the long-term reliability and experience of the company in the region.

Sustainability Approach

Madinat Salman Sewage Treatment Plant is an advanced installation that is fitted with modern tertiary treatment and highly advanced sludge handling systems, notably aerobic digestion and thermal drying. In addition, an automated line for bagging EPA Class A sludge is installed, which is also commercially disposed of. The purified effluent can significantly serve the system of water reuse since it meets the irrigation standard needed by 13 islands in Bahrain, hence, facilitating the sustainability of the water reuse and conservation of the environment.
