Mumbai, August 26, 2025 – Vedanta Limited (NSE: VEDL, BSE: 500295) has gone ex-dividend today, Tuesday, August 26, 2025, for the second interim dividend of ₹16 per equity share (each face value ₹1). The record date for determining eligible shareholders is set as Wednesday, August 27, 2025.
The board of directors, in its meeting dated August 21, 2025, approved the distribution, declaring a total amount of approximately ₹6,256 crore.
How Ex-Dividend Works?
The ex-dividend date is the point after which a stock trades without the benefit of its announced dividend. Whoever invested in Vedanta shares before August 25, 2025, is eligible for the dividend. From August 26, 2025, onwards, new investors of the stock will not be able to claim this dividend.
August 26, 2025, will see the share trading without dividend entitlement. On August 27, 2025, Vedanta will finalize the list of shareholders who are eligible to be paid the dividend. The dividend will then be credited to the eligible shareholders within the statutory timeline.
What Does This Mean for Shareholders?
For current investors who own Vedanta shares up to the record date, this provides a cash payment of ₹16 per held share. For instance, an investor owning 1,000 shares will be paid ₹16,000 as a dividend.
On the trading side, it is not unusual for the price of a stock to go down on the ex-dividend date, approximately by the size of the dividend paid, representing the disbursement from the company’s books. Price movement also happens based on general market sentiment and demand-supply balance.
Dividend History (Recent Payouts)
