Mumbai, July 8: Wednesday’s action wasn’t driven only by the usual frontline names. A number of mid-cap and small-cap stocks suddenly witnessed a sharp rise in trading activity, signalling that market participation had widened beyond the benchmark indices.

Jindal Drilling and Industries topped the volume gainers list after trading at more than 154 times its one-week average volume while climbing 13.62% to ₹613.75. Close behind were Gem Aromatics, Master Trust, D. P. Abhushan, and Dhunseri Investments, all of which saw trading volumes far exceed their recent averages.

Momentum Spread Across Multiple Sectors

The day’s volume spike wasn’t confined to a single pocket of the market. Pharma counters such as Unichem Laboratories and Orchid Pharma attracted strong buying interest, while industrial names including Jindal Drilling and Hikal also featured prominently.

Elsewhere, jewellery player D. P. Abhushan posted one of the strongest price gains on the list, while financial services company Master Trust and specialty chemical maker Gem Aromatics also recorded notable increases in trading activity.

Volume Often Signals Where Attention Is Building

A sharp jump in traded volumes doesn’t always translate into a lasting trend, but it often points to stocks drawing fresh market interest. Wednesday’s list reflected buying across a diverse mix of sectors, from pharmaceuticals and industrials to financial services and specialty chemicals, rather than a rally concentrated in just one theme.

Conclusion

Jindal Drilling led Wednesday’s volume gainers by a comfortable margin, with Unichem Laboratories, Gem Aromatics, D. P. Abhushan and Orchid Pharma also seeing unusually heavy trading. The broad-based participation suggested investors were actively exploring opportunities well beyond the large-cap universe.
