Mumbai, July 11: Investors are bracing for an event-packed week that could determine the near-term direction of domestic equities. The spotlight will be on a string of key macroeconomic releases, including India’s retail and wholesale inflation, unemployment and trade data, alongside crucial US inflation, retail sales, producer price inflation and industrial production figures. These releases will be closely scrutinised for fresh clues on the monetary policy outlook of both the Reserve Bank of India (RBI) and the US Federal Reserve, at a time when markets remain highly sensitive to interest rate expectations.

The June-quarter earnings season will also gather pace, with several heavyweight companies across banking, information technology, insurance, financial services, automobiles and manufacturing set to report their results. HCL Technologies will lead earnings for the large-cap IT pack, followed by Wipro, Tech Mahindra, L&T Technology Services, Tata Elxsi and Tata Technologies.

Financial stocks will remain firmly in the spotlight as HDFC Bank, ICICI Bank, Axis Bank, Kotak Mahindra Bank and Yes Bank announce their quarterly scorecards over the weekend, while HDFC Life, ICICI Lombard, Angel One and Poonawalla Fincorp are also scheduled to report. Investors will also keep a close watch on monthly passenger vehicle sales data and management commentary across sectors for insights into consumer demand, corporate spending and the broader health of the economy.

Monday, July 13

India Retail Inflation: India’s June retail inflation data will be closely tracked for fresh clues on the inflation trajectory and the Reserve Bank of India’s monetary policy outlook. A softer-than-expected reading could strengthen expectations of a prolonged pause in interest rates, while an upside surprise may temper hopes of any policy easing.

HCL Tech Results: Investors will focus on revenue growth, margin performance, large deal wins, AI-related demand and management’s commentary on client spending trends amid an uncertain global macroeconomic environment.

Tuesday, July 14

India Passenger Vehicle Sales: Monthly passenger vehicle sales numbers from major automakers will offer insights into consumer demand, festive season inventory build-up and overall momentum in the automobile sector.

India Import-Export Data: The country’s trade data will be monitored for trends in exports, imports and the trade deficit. Investors will look for signs of improving external demand and the impact of global economic conditions on India’s trade performance.

US PPI Data: The US Producer Price Index will be watched for indications of wholesale inflation and pipeline price pressures, providing another important input into the Federal Reserve’s interest rate outlook.

Thursday, July 16

US Retail Sales Data: Retail sales figures will offer a key gauge of consumer spending in the world’s largest economy. Strong data could reinforce expectations of economic resilience, while weaker numbers may revive concerns over slowing growth.

US Initial Jobless Claims: Weekly jobless claims will provide another read on the health of the US labour market and could influence expectations around the Federal Reserve’s monetary policy path.

Wipro Results: Investors will closely track Wipro’s earnings for updates on demand across key markets, deal wins, operating margins, hiring trends and the outlook for discretionary technology spending.
