Wipro Shares Rise Nearly 2% Tracking Broader IT Rally; Company Grants Fresh RSUs to Employees

Mumbai, July 30: Wipro (WIPRO) shares gained ground on Thursday, trading up nearly 2 per cent in the afternoon session as the stock extended the broader rally in information technology counters that has driven the Nifty IT index higher through the week.
The stock opened flat at Rs 183.40, at par with its previous close of Rs 183.61, before climbing steadily through the session to hit an intraday high of Rs 191.34. At last check, WIPRO was trading at Rs 186.89, up Rs 3.28 or 1.79 per cent, shortly after it had changed hands at Rs 186.86, up Rs 3.25 or 1.77 per cent. The volume weighted average price for the day stood at Rs 188.83, with the stock giving up some of its intraday highs as the session progressed, its low for the day matching its opening level of Rs 183.40.
By last check, orders on the exchange for WIPRO were tilted towards sellers, with 74.54 per cent of the total outstanding orders, or 49,10,875 shares, on the offer side, compared with 25.46 per cent, or 16,77,738 shares, on the bid. The top of the order book showed a bid of Rs 186.88 for 84 shares against an ask of Rs 186.92 for 1,105 shares, with deeper levels showing significantly larger quantities stacked on the sell side, including 31,981 shares bid at Rs 186.85 against 1,457 shares offered at Rs 186.95.
Weekly Trend
Zooming out to view the stock’s performance over the past week, Wipro shares started at around Rs 176 levels on July 23 and climbed steadily through the week, touching close to Rs 178 by July 27 before extending gains to end at Rs 183.61 by July 28. Thursday’s rally has added further momentum to this upward trend, taking the stock comfortably past the Rs 186 mark intraday.
Wipro Grants Fresh Restricted Stock Units to Employees
In a separate development, Wipro informed stock exchanges on Wednesday that it has granted 9,11,458 ADS Restricted Stock Units and 1,10,424 Restricted Stock Units to identified employees under the company’s Employee Stock Options, Performance Stock Unit and Restricted Stock Unit Scheme 2024. The grant, effective from July 29, 2026, will vest as per the schedule approved by the Nomination and Remuneration Committee of the Board and can be exercised over the approved exercise period. The move comes days after the company had also allotted shares under earlier stock unit plans following the exercise of employee stock options.
In simple words on the communique: Wipro told the stock exchanges that it has given new stock units to some of its employees as a reward, similar to a bonus in shares. These shares will become available to the employees gradually over time, based on a schedule set by the company’s board.
