Mumbai, June 2:ACME Solar Holdings share price surged as much as 9% on Tuesday after the renewable energy company launched a qualified institutional placement (QIP) to raise up to ₹2,800 crore.

Investors welcomed the fundraising plan, which is aimed at reducing debt, strengthening the balance sheet and increasing the company’s public shareholding, driving the stock to one of the top gainers on the bourses. As of writing, the stock was up 7.6% at Rs 331.

Fundraising Plan Sparks Rally

The company approved the opening of its QIP and set a floor price of ₹294.13 per share, which means a discount of around 4 percent to the previous closing price. The issue size of up to ₹2,800 crore is expected to provide ACME Solar with significant financial flexibility as it pursues its expansion plans in India’s fast-growing renewable energy sector.

Market participants reacted positively to the move, viewing the capital raise as a step towards improving the company’s financial profile. The stock rallied sharply as investors bet that a stronger balance sheet could support future growth and reduce funding-related risks.

Debt Reduction in Focus

A major objective of the fundraising exercise is debt reduction. Renewable energy companies typically require substantial capital to build and operate solar and wind power projects, making leverage levels a key area of focus for investors.

By using a portion of the proceeds to repay borrowings, ACME Solar is expected to lower interest costs and strengthen its financial position. Analysts generally view deleveraging favourably as it can improve profitability, enhance cash flows and increase the company’s ability to pursue new projects.

The fundraising also comes at a time when investors are placing a premium on companies with strong balance sheets amid a higher interest-rate environment and rising competition for capital.

Public Float to Improve

The QIP is also expected to increase the company’s public shareholding, potentially improving liquidity in the stock and broadening institutional ownership.

A larger public float can make shares more attractive to domestic and foreign institutional investors by improving trading volumes and reducing concentration risk. Enhanced liquidity often helps support valuations over the longer term.

The move aligns with broader efforts by recently listed companies to diversify their shareholder base and attract long-term investors.

Moreover, the share sale could also help the company meet minimum public shareholding needs as promoters currently hold about 83.3 percent equity.

Renewable Energy Growth Story Intact

Investor enthusiasm was also supported by the strong long-term outlook for India’s renewable energy sector. The country continues to add solar and wind capacity aggressively as it pursues ambitious clean-energy targets and seeks to reduce dependence on fossil fuels.

ACME Solar has been expanding its portfolio of renewable energy assets and remains well positioned to benefit from rising demand for green power from utilities, commercial customers and government agencies.

What Investors Are Watching

Going forward, investors will monitor the level of institutional demand for the QIP, the pricing of the issue and management’s deployment of the proceeds. Progress on debt reduction and project execution will also remain key factors influencing sentiment toward the stock.

For now, the fundraising announcement has been interpreted as a positive step toward strengthening ACME Solar’s balance sheet, helping fuel the stock’s sharp rally.
