Mumbai, October 22: Shares of Bharat Electronics Ltd (BEL) fell as much as 2.4% in early trade on Thursday, October 22, despite the defence public sector undertaking securing a Rs 770-crore contract from the Ministry of Defence for advanced radar systems for the Indian Army.
The stock was down1.14% as of 11:08 am.
BEL Secures Rs 770-Crore Radar Contract
The latest contract covers the supply of improved low-level lightweight radars (LLLR-I) designed to strengthen the Indian Army’s air defence capabilities. The systems will help detect and track fighter aircraft, as well as mini and micro drones, addressing the growing threat posed by unmanned aerial systems.
According to the Defence Ministry, the radars can identify aerial targets and prioritise them based on their threat levels. The procurement comes amid India’s broader efforts to bolster air defence infrastructure and improve its ability to counter low-altitude aerial threats.
The order adds to BEL’s defence electronics portfolio, with radar systems forming an important part of the company’s business supplying equipment to the armed forces.
BEL Order Book In Focus
Separately, Bharat Electronics disclosed that it had received additional orders worth Rs 1,011 crore since its previous announcement on October 13.

The orders cover a range of products and services, including communication systems, sonar equipment, jammers, upgrades, spares and other defence-related requirements. The latest contract wins underline the company’s continued order inflows from the defence sector.
Investors will monitor the pace of order additions and the company’s ability to execute its growing order book, as these factors are important drivers of revenue visibility for defence manufacturers.
Why Is Bharat Electronics Share Price Falling?
Despite the fresh radar contract, BEL shares traded lower in early deals. The decline indicates that the order announcement did not provide an immediate boost to investor sentiment.
However, the available information does not establish a specific trigger for the stock’s fall. Broader market weakness, profit-taking or valuation-related concerns could influence trading, although these should not be treated as confirmed reasons.
Investors will also track the company’s upcoming quarterly earnings for indications of revenue growth, profitability and order execution.
BEL remains a key player in India’s defence electronics industry, supplying radar, communication and electronic warfare systems to the armed forces. Its share price performance will depend on broader market conditions as well as the company’s ability to convert fresh orders into revenue and earnings growth.
