BSE to Introduce Pre-Open Session in Equity Derivatives from December 8

Mumbai, August 28, 2025– BSE has announced the launch of a new Pre-Open Session for index and stock futures in the Equity Derivatives asset class, commencing on Monday, December 28, 2025. The Pre-Open Session has been established to facilitate traders and improve risk surveillance across the entire derivatives marketplace.

BSE also clarified that no changes would be necessary in the ETI API or Market Data broadcast streams. The Exchange will utilise its existing message structure and field definitions for the Pre-Open Session in the Equity Derivatives asset class.

Implementation Timeline

The testing environment will be available starting October 6, 2025, with the official launch scheduled for December 8, 2025. At this time, the rollout will only involve index futures and stock futures, and additional operational details will be communicated in a separate notice.

Market Readiness

A spokesperson for the BSE urged its members and technology providers to take an active role in the simulation phase to help ensure the readiness process is a success. The exchange reiterated its commitment to improving efficiency, transparency, and risk monitoring, and concluded that the extension would enable more price discovery and trading discipline in the derivatives market.
