Mumbai, October 21: Dr. Reddy’s Laboratories Limited has received approval from the Drug Controller General of India (DCGI) for Zytorvi (toripalimab) in combination with cisplatin and paclitaxel for the first-line treatment of adults with unresectable advanced, recurrent or metastatic esophageal squamous cell carcinoma.

The approval expands Zytorvi’s use beyond its previously approved indication for recurrent or metastatic nasopharyngeal carcinoma in India.

Zytorvi Approval Expands Cancer Treatment Portfolio

Zytorvi is a monoclonal antibody that targets programmed death receptor-1 (PD-1), helping support the immune system’s response against cancer cells. Dr. Reddy’s entered into a licensing and commercialisation agreement with Shanghai Junshi Biosciences in 2023 for toripalimab across 21 countries.

The Indian approval is supported by findings from the Phase 3 JUPITER-06 trial. According to the company, the study found that toripalimab combined with cisplatin and paclitaxel reduced the risk of disease worsening or death by 42% compared with chemotherapy alone. At the final overall-survival analysis, median overall survival was 17.7 months with toripalimab plus chemotherapy, compared with 12.9 months with chemotherapy alone.

The company said the approval could expand access to first-line immunotherapy for eligible patients with advanced ESCC. It did not disclose the expected revenue contribution from the expanded indication.
