New Delhi, Oct 21: Gold prices fell on Wednesday from their level on Monday. Tuesday was a trading holiday for Indian equity markets because of Dussehra. According to Goodreturns.in, 10 grams of 24-carat (99.9% purity) gold costs Rs 1,46,080 in most cities. The price of 10 grams of 22-carat (91.6% purity) gold is Rs 1,33,900, while 18-carat (75% purity) gold is selling at Rs 1,09,560.
On Monday, 10 grams of 24-carat, 22-carat and 18-carat gold cost Rs 1,48,040, Rs 1,35,700 and Rs 1,11,030, respectively. This represents falls of Rs 1,960, Rs 1,800 and Rs 1,470 per 10 grams, respectively, or around 1.3% across all three categories. The fall more than wipes out the Rs 600 rise in 24-carat gold that Monday brought.
On a per-gram basis, 24-carat gold costs Rs 14,608, 22-carat gold Rs 13,390 and 18-carat gold Rs 10,956 in the Mumbai cluster of cities. Buyers will therefore pay Rs 196, Rs 180 and Rs 147 less per gram, respectively, than Monday’s rates.
For bulk buyers, one kilogram of 24-carat gold costs Rs 1,46,08,000, while 22-carat and 18-carat gold cost Rs 1,33,90,000 and Rs 1,09,56,000, respectively. This is Rs 1,96,000, Rs 1,80,000 and Rs 1,47,000 less than Monday’s rates.
The price of 10 grams of 24-carat gold is now Rs 1,360 lower than Friday, October 16, when it stood at Rs 1,47,440, and Rs 4,900 lower than Monday, October 12, when it stood at Rs 1,50,980. That is a fall of about 3.25% from the October 12 level, and today’s rate is below every rate recorded since that day.
Delhi continues to be the costliest city, with 10 grams of 24-carat gold priced at Rs 1,46,230. This is Rs 150 more than the rate of Rs 1,46,080 in Chennai, Mumbai, Kolkata, Bengaluru, Hyderabad, Kerala and Pune. The gap has not changed since Monday.
A similar trend can be seen in 22-carat and 18-carat gold prices, with Delhi charging Rs 150 more per 10 grams than the Mumbai cluster in both. Vadodara and Ahmedabad have 24-carat prices of Rs 1,46,130 per 10 grams, which is Rs 50 higher than the Mumbai cluster. In Chennai, 10 grams of 18-carat gold is priced at Rs 1,09,700, Rs 140 higher than the Mumbai cluster, narrowing from Rs 520 on Monday.

Every row in the three tables shows a fall. In 24K and 22K gold, all ten cities saw the same decline of ₹1,960 and ₹1,800 per 10 grams, respectively, while 18K gold fell by ₹1,470 in nine cities and ₹1,850 in Chennai.
Keep in mind that these are bullion rates. Jewellery will cost more because you will have to pay making charges, wastage charges and 3% GST. GST alone adds about ₹4,382 on a 10-gram purchase of 24K gold at today’s rate.
With Dhanteras and Diwali still to come, buyers will be watching whether the fall deepens or the rates find a floor after Dussehra. At ₹1,46,080 per 10 grams, 50 grams of 24K gold costs ₹7,30,400 before making charges and GST. A 22K chain weighing 20 grams would cost ₹2,67,800 in gold value alone at ₹1,33,900 per 10 grams, which is ₹3,600 less than on Monday.
