Kolkata, July 23: Gold prices in the city climbed further on Thursday, with jewellers quoting 24-karat gold at ₹14,728 per gram, up ₹77 from Wednesday’s level of ₹14,651. Twenty-two karat gold rose by ₹70 to ₹13,500 per gram, while 18-karat gold gained ₹58 to ₹11,046 per gram.

Gold prices in Kolkata continued to move higher on Thursday, extending the momentum built over the previous two trading sessions. After a sharp jump earlier this week, retail gold rates posted another healthy increase, taking both 24K and 22K gold to their highest levels in the last 10 days.

As of today, 24K gold is priced at ₹14,728 per gram, 22K gold at ₹13,500 per gram, while 18K gold is retailing at ₹11,046 per gram.

The latest increase follows Wednesday’s strong rally, when 24K gold surged by ₹229 per gram and 22K gold jumped by ₹210. In just two trading sessions, 24K gold has appreciated by ₹306 per gram, while 22K gold has gained ₹280, highlighting the strength of the recent recovery.

A look at the last 10 days shows how quickly sentiment has changed. On July 14, 24K gold was priced at ₹14,280 per gram. It now trades at ₹14,728, meaning prices have climbed ₹448 per gram during the period. 22K gold has risen from ₹13,090 to ₹13,500, adding ₹410 per gram over the same timeframe.

The journey hasn’t been completely smooth. Gold prices slipped briefly on July 16 and July 17, before stabilising and then staging a strong comeback over the following sessions. The gains recorded on July 22 and July 23 have more than erased those earlier declines, leaving bullion prices at fresh highs for the period.

For buyers planning jewellery purchases, 10 grams of 24K gold is now priced at ₹1,47,280, while the base value of 10 grams of 22K gold stands at ₹1,35,000 before making charges, GST and other levies are added.

How Have Gold Prices Moved Over the Last 10 Days?

Gold prices in Kolkata have witnessed a strong turnaround over the past 10 days. After easing in the middle of the month, the market regained momentum, with the biggest jump coming on July 22. Thursday’s gains have further strengthened that recovery, pushing both 24K and 22K gold to their highest levels during the period.

Compared with July 1424K gold has gained ₹448 per gram, while 22K gold has risen by ₹410 per gram. The back-to-back rallies over the last two sessions account for a significant portion of that increase.

Why Do Gold Prices Change Every Day?

Gold prices in Kolkata are revised daily to reflect movements in the bullion market. Retail rates are influenced by domestic demand, international gold prices, import costs, taxes, currency movements and local market conditions. Since these factors change regularly, gold prices may move higher, lower or remain unchanged from one day to the next.

Conclusion

Gold prices in Kolkata continued to strengthen on July 23, with 24K gold reaching ₹14,728 per gram and 22K gold climbing to ₹13,500 per gram. Although the pace of gains has moderated compared with the previous session, bullion prices remain at their highest level in the last 10 days. Buyers planning to purchase gold jewellery should also factor in making charges, GST and other applicable levies, which can significantly increase the final purchase price.
