Mumbai, July 21: Gold prices rose marginally in India on Tuesday. The national average gold rate for 24 karat is Rs 1,43,470, 22 karat Rs 1,31,510 and 18 karat Rs 1,07,600 per 10 grams.
Taking cues from a marginal increase in global rates, Tuesday’s domestic price rise marks gains of Rs 190, Rs 170 and Rs 140 for 24 karat, 22 karat and 18 karat gold respectively, compared to Monday’s national average that remained flat at Rs 1,43,280, Rs 1,31,340 and Rs 1,07,460 per 10 grams. The Delhi rate for 22 karat gold is Rs 1,31,660 per 10 grams.
Monday’s rates had stayed steady from Friday’s closing prices since bullion markets had been closed over the weekend. Most traders attributed Tuesday’s rise to “a cocktail” of factors that have driven prices higher so far this week — global rate trends, rupee-dollar movement and safe-haven demand amid ongoing Middle East tensions, keeping gold prices near record highs as we enter the latter half of the week.
Spot gold prices on global exchanges too rose overnight, boosted by dips in the dollar index and fresh buying interest from institutions, analysts said.

For context, though daily fluctuations have been sharp in recent sessions, gold prices have broadly been range-bound throughout July. So far this month, domestic prices have traded in a range of Rs 1,000 to Rs 2,000 — a few thousand rupees per 10 grams — even as they hover around record territory, with neither violent rallies nor sudden corrections dictating the price action.

As always, we recommend that buyers check live gold rates through the day and confirm the final billed price with your jeweller — inclusive of making charges and GST — before any sale or purchase.
“Gold has stayed in a range for most part of July,” said bullion dealers, underlining that today’s gain should not be mistaken for the start of another rally. Physical demand at jewellery stores has been robust on account of the wedding season, they added, and is likely to remain firm through the week even as prices hover around record highs. In terms of what could impact price movement from here on out, analysts say the US Fed’s rate signal, the dollar index and escalation in tensions between Iran and the US will be important to watch — along with the domestic import duty structure and underlying supply-demand.
Before purchasing gold, remember to ask your jeweller about the additional costs that go into your final billed amount. On gold purchases upwards of 2 grams, consumers will have to pay an applicable 3 per cent GST. Most jewellers also charge a making cost between Rs 500-Rs 1,000 for simple jewellery designs, which goes up to Rs 2,000-Rs 15,000 for complicated jewellery.
