Mumbai, July 31: Gold rates edged marginally higher in India on Friday morning, building on Thursday’s sharp rebound after two straight sessions of declines.

The national rate for gold stood at Rs 1,44,340 for 24 karat gold, Rs 1,32,310 for 22 karat gold, and Rs 1,08,260 for 18 karat gold per 10 grams as of Friday morning. This marks a modest rise of Rs 10 each across all three purities over Thursday’s levels of Rs 1,44,330, Rs 1,32,300 and Rs 1,08,250 per 10 grams, respectively.

The uptick follows Thursday’s sharp rebound, when 24 karat gold had jumped Rs 820, 22 karat gold Rs 750 and 18 karat gold Rs 620 per 10 grams over Wednesday’s levels, reversing a two-session slide. Bullion dealers said prices held onto most of those gains on Friday, with fresh safe-haven buying persisting. This reverses recent losses that had seen 24 karat gold slip by close to Rs 1,400 from its record highs earlier last week, with the metal now consolidating just below those peaks.

A softer dollar index following the US Federal Reserve’s rate decision earlier in the week has continued to support bullion, traders said. Global spot gold prices also held firm through Asian trade on Friday, broadly tracking the domestic market. Investors continue to weigh the Fed’s hawkish undertone, with three officials having voted for a rate hike at the last meeting, even as riskier assets like Indian equities also traded firm through the week, limiting expectations of a broad risk-off move into bullion.

As always, please ensure that you confirm live rates through the day at your jeweller before buying or selling. We recommend checking the final billed price with the jeweller before completing the transaction, and factoring in making charges and GST.

Dealers said physical demand at jewellery counters has held up through recent price volatility, with wedding season shopping continuing to support buying even as gold trades up sharply year-to-date. The metal’s near-term price moves are likely to be dictated by cues from the Iran-US situation and the Fed’s stance heading into its September meeting.
