Mumbai, June 24: Gold prices fell for the third consecutive session on Wednesday, retreating as continued progress in US-Iran peace negotiations reduced the geopolitical risk premium that had been underpinning the metal’s safe-haven appeal. The national rate for 10 grams of 24 karat gold (99.9% purity) declined Rs 2,190 to Rs 1,44,330 on Wednesday, compared with Rs 1,46,520 on Tuesday.
The 10-gram rate for 22 karat gold (91.6% purity) dropped to Rs 1,32,300, while 18 karat gold (75% purity) fell to Rs 1,08,250 per 10 grams, with all three purities tracking the broad easing in global gold prices that has followed the US granting Iran a 60-day sanctions waiver and the gradual resumption of Strait of Hormuz tanker traffic.

Across major Indian cities, Chennai retained its premium positioning as the most expensive gold market in the country, with 10 grams of 24 karat gold priced at Rs 1,47,920, 22 karat at Rs 1,35,590 and 18 karat at Rs 1,13,390, a differential of Rs 3,590 over the national 24 karat benchmark that reflects consistently higher local levies in Tamil Nadu. Chennai’s decline from Tuesday’s Rs 1,48,360 for 24 karat was a smaller Rs 440 compared with the Rs 2,190 drop seen in most other cities, indicating that local demand factors or procurement timing may have cushioned the fall in the southern market.
In the western and northern regions, Delhi came in fractionally above the national baseline at Rs 1,44,480 for 24 karat, Rs 1,32,450 for 22 karat, and Rs 1,08,400 for 18 karat per 10 grams. Vadodara and Ahmedabad matched each other at Rs 1,44,380 for 24 karat, Rs 1,32,350 for 22 karat, and Rs 1,08,300 for 18 karat, marginally above the national rate. Mumbai, Kolkata, Bangalore, Hyderabad, Kerala, and Pune all held at the national benchmark of Rs 1,44,330 for 24 karat, Rs 1,32,300 for 22 karat, and Rs 1,08,250 for 18 karat per 10 grams. Buyers should note that a Goods and Services Tax of 3% applies on all gold purchases, and jeweller-specific making charges will add to the final bill.
