Petrol, Diesel Prices Today, August 28, 2026: Check Fuel Rates In Delhi, Mumbai, Kolkata, Chennai And Other Cities

Mumbai, August 28: Petrol and diesel prices remained unchanged across major Indian cities on Friday, with motorists continuing to pay different rates depending on their location and applicable state taxes. Petrol was priced at ₹102.12 a litre in New Delhi and ₹111.18 in Mumbai, while diesel rates stood at ₹95.20 and ₹97.83, respectively. Among the cities tracked, petrol was most expensive in Hyderabad at ₹115.69 a litre, while diesel was highest in Thiruvananthapuram at ₹104.40. Chandigarh continued to have among the lowest fuel prices, with petrol at ₹98.10 and diesel at ₹86.09 a litre. 

Oil prices edged lower on Friday and were on course to snap a two-week winning streak, as easing concerns over supply disruptions outweighed lingering tensions between the United States and Iran. 

Brent crude futures fell 0.5% to $89.2 a barrel, while U.S. West Texas Intermediate crude was down the same at $83.12. Brent was headed for a weekly decline of 5.3%, while WTI was set to fall 4.3%. 

The decline came despite a brief recovery in the previous session after a report that U.S. President Donald Trump’s administration was not interested in reviving the terms of a June memorandum of understanding with Iran. Washington has also said it is not currently engaged in talks with Tehran, while continuing to impose severe economic sanctions on the country. 

For oil markets, however, the immediate focus remains on actual supply flows rather than diplomatic rhetoric. Efforts to reopen the Strait of Hormuz have gathered pace, although shipping through the key oil route remains well below normal levels. Asian crude imports have also stayed below pre-conflict levels, suggesting that physical supply conditions remain tight despite the recent pullback in prices. 

The decline in crude prices could offer some relief to oil-importing economies such as India, where lower energy costs can ease inflationary pressures and support the margins of fuel-intensive sectors. However, any escalation in the Iran conflict or renewed disruption to shipments through the Strait of Hormuz could quickly push prices higher, keeping crude a key risk for global markets.

Petrol Prices 

Petrol prices remained unchanged across major Indian cities on Friday. In New Delhi, petrol was priced at ₹102.12 a litre, while Mumbai residents paid ₹111.18 a litre. 

Among the four major metros, Kolkata had the highest petrol price at ₹113.47 a litre, followed by Chennai at ₹107.77. Mumbai’s rate stood at ₹111.18, compared with ₹102.12 in New Delhi, highlighting the wide variation in fuel prices across the country. 

Gurgaon and Noida recorded petrol prices of ₹102.77 and ₹102.12 per litre, respectively. Bengaluru’s rate was higher at ₹110.93, while Bhubaneswar retailed petrol at ₹109.92. Chandigarh remained among the cheaper markets at ₹98.10 a litre, while Lucknow was at ₹102.05. 

Petrol prices were also elevated in several other cities, with Hyderabad at ₹115.69 a litre, the highest among the cities listed, followed by Thiruvananthapuram at ₹115.49 and Jaipur at ₹112.66. Patna’s petrol price stood at ₹113.35 a litre. 

Diesel Prices 

Diesel prices remained unchanged across major Indian cities on Friday. In New Delhi, diesel was priced at ₹95.20 a litre, while Mumbai recorded a rate of ₹97.83. 

Among the major metros, Kolkata had the highest diesel price at ₹99.82 a litre, followed by Chennai at ₹99.55. Mumbai’s rate stood at ₹97.83, compared with ₹95.20 in New Delhi. 

Gurgaon and Noida recorded diesel prices of ₹95.44 and ₹95.56 per litre, respectively. Bengaluru’s rate was ₹98.80, while Bhubaneswar was at ₹100.92. Chandigarh remained the cheapest among the listed cities at ₹86.09 a litre, while Lucknow stood at ₹95.55. 

Diesel prices were highest in Thiruvananthapuram at ₹104.40 a litre, followed by Hyderabad at ₹103.82. Jaipur’s rate was ₹97.78, while Patna recorded ₹99.36 per litre.
