Mumbai, May 18: JSW Energy Ltd said it has divested part of its holding in JSW Steel Ltd through a bulk deal transaction on the National Stock Exchange, according to an exchange disclosure filed on May 18.

The company stated that it sold 2,50,00,000 equity shares of JSW Steel with a face value of ₹1 each through a bulk deal executed on the NSE.

As per the regulatory filing, the transaction generated gross proceeds of ₹3,150 crore as part of what the company described as a strategic liquidity release.

JSW Energy said the monetisation of a portion of its investment in JSW Steel is aimed at releasing capital for future growth initiatives while improving return on capital employed.

The company further stated that the transaction aligns with its disciplined capital allocation strategy and long-term shareholder value creation objectives.

Following completion of the transaction, JSW Energy’s residual holding in JSW Steel stood at 4,50,38,350 equity shares.

Stock Market Snapshot

JSW Energy share price traded lower during morning trade on May 18. The stock was trading at ₹509.30, down 1.12% from the previous close, as of 9:54 AM IST.

According to market data, the stock opened at ₹521 and touched ₹523.55 before declining to a session low of ₹509. The company’s market stood at approximately ₹89,440 crore.

Market participants tracked the impact of the stake sale announcement alongside the company’s capital deployment and liquidity management strategy.

JSW Energy Ltd is part of the JSW Group and operates across power generation, transmission and renewable energy businesses.

The company has a diversified energy portfolio comprising thermal, hydro, wind and solar assets across multiple Indian states. It has also been expanding into energy storage and green energy initiatives.

Conclusion

The ₹3,150 crore bulk deal transaction provides additional liquidity for JSW Energy while reducing its exposure to JSW Steel through partial monetisation of its investment holding.
