JSW Infrastructure secured a Letter of Award from Syama Prasad Mookerjee Port Authority for container terminal development at Kolkata Dock System, boosting its east coast expansion plans.

Mumbai, June 9: JSW Infrastructure has received a Letter of Award (LOA) from Syama Prasad Mookerjee Port Authority (SMPA), Kolkata, for the integrated development of the Outer Container Terminal and Berths 1 to 5 at Netaji Subhas Dock under the public-private partnership (PPP) model.
The company disclosed the development through an exchange filing under Regulation 30 of the SEBI (Listing Obligations and Disclosure Requirements) Regulations, 2015.
According to the filing, the project has been awarded on a Design, Build, Finance, Operate and Transfer (DBFOT) basis and carries a concession period of 30 years.
The project involves construction of two outer container handling berths along with takeover and modernization of five existing berths at the Netaji Subhas Dock in Kolkata Dock System.
JSW Infrastructure said the terminal is expected to create a combined handling capacity of around 0.93 million TEUs, equivalent to nearly 13 million tonnes per annum of container and multipurpose cargo.
Stock Market Snapshot
JSW Infrastructure share price rallied sharply after the announcement, with investors reacting positively to the company’s expanding presence in India’s port and logistics sector.
The stock was trading at ₹281.35, up 4.81%, as of 15:08 IST on June 09, 2026, according to market data.
The sharp move reflected market optimism around the project’s long-term revenue potential and JSW Infrastructure’s growing strategic footprint across eastern cargo and container handling operations.

East Coast Expansion Strategy Gains Momentum
The latest project marks JSW Infrastructure’s second major win from SMPA within a year and significantly strengthens its position at the Kolkata Dock System.
The company said the new terminal project builds on its earlier LOA for reconstruction of Berth 8 and mechanisation of Berths 7 and 8 at Netaji Subhas Dock.
Upon completion of ongoing projects, JSW Infrastructure expects its combined container handling capacity at Kolkata Dock System to reach around 1.4 million TEUs.
Management indicated that the expansion aligns with the company’s broader strategy of diversifying cargo mix and increasing its third-party logistics and container handling business.
Project To Support Long-Term Capacity Expansion
JSW Infrastructure said the project is expected to improve berth productivity, ease capacity constraints and reduce vessel turnaround time at the Kolkata Dock System.
The company also highlighted strong cargo fundamentals in eastern India and the strategic importance of Kolkata as a gateway for regional trade and logistics movement.
JSW Infrastructure currently operates multiple port concessions across India and continues to expand its cargo-handling and integrated logistics capabilities through long-term infrastructure investments.
