U.S. Adds 22,000 Jobs In August, Far Fewer Than Expected

Employment in the U.S. rose by much less than expected in the month of August, the Labor Department revealed in a closely watched report released on Friday. The report said non-farm payroll employment crept up by 22,000 jobs in August after climbing by an upwardly revised 79,000 jobs in July. Economists had expected employment to increase by 75,000 jobs compared to the addition of 73,000 jobs originally reported for the previous month.

Eurozone GDP Growth Confirmed At 0.1%

The Eurozone economy registered a marginal growth in the second quarter, as initially estimated, as growth in consumption was partially offset the decline in investment, official data showed Friday. In the revised report, Eurostat confirmed that gross domestic product grew 0.1 percent sequentially, after rising 0.6 percent in the first quarter. On a yearly basis, economic growth slowed to 1.5 percent, which was bigger than the initial estimate of 1.4 percent. This followed a

1.6 percent rise in the first quarter.

Japan Leading Index Improves In July

Japan’s leading index increased for the second straight month in July to the highest level in four months, preliminary data from the Cabinet Office showed on Friday. The leading index, which measures future economic activity, rose to 105.9 in July from 105.1 in June. That was in line with expectations. The coincident index that measures the current economic situation came in at 113.3, down from 115.9 in the previous month. Meanwhile, the lagging index climbed to 114.2 in July from 113.4 a month ago
