Mumbai, July 13: Information technology stocks dominated gains in the Nifty 50 on Monday, with Tata Consultancy Services (TCS), HCLTech, Tech Mahindra and Infosys leading the benchmark index higher after attracting strong buying interest. On the other hand, Grasim Industries, Tata Steel and Nestle India came under pressure as investors booked profits in select heavyweight counters.
The day’s market action reflected a clear divergence across sectors, with technology stocks outperforming while weakness persisted in pockets of metals, FMCG and diversified businesses.

Technology remained the strongest-performing sector of the session. TCS topped the gainers’ chart after rallying 5.51% to ₹2,182.90, making it the biggest contributor to the index’s upside. HCLTech followed with a 5.15% gain to ₹1,224.00, while Tech Mahindra climbed 3.24% to ₹1,502.00.
Infosys also added 3.24% to close at ₹1,102.60, extending the strength across frontline IT stocks. Bajaj Auto rounded out the top five gainers, rising 2.50% to ₹10,410.00.

Market Breadth Reflects Sector Rotation
Monday’s trading session highlighted a clear rotation toward information technology stocks, with the sector accounting for four of the top five gainers in the Nifty 50. The rally in IT counters helped offset weakness in metals, FMCG and select industrial stocks, where investors opted to book profits following recent gains.
Conclusion
The Nifty 50 ended the session with TCS, HCLTech, Tech Mahindra, Infosys and Bajaj Auto emerging as the day’s biggest gainers, supported by robust buying in technology stocks. Meanwhile, Grasim Industries, Tata Steel, Nestle India, Eternal and IndiGo featured among the top losers as selling pressure remained concentrated in select heavyweight counters. Investors will now watch upcoming corporate earnings and management commentary to gauge whether the leadership in IT stocks can sustain in the sessions ahead.
