Mumbai, July 15: The Nifty 50 ended on a mixed note on Wednesday as buying in cement, insurance and select financial stocks offset weakness in metals, utilities and IT shares. UltraTech Cement and Eternal emerged as the session’s top performers, while Hindalco Industries and Power Grid Corporation came under selling pressure.

Market Breadth

Buying interest was concentrated in cement, insurance and select auto names, with UltraTech Cement extending gains after touching an intraday high of ₹11,855. Eternal and HDFC Life also remained firmly in positive territory throughout the session.

On the other hand, profit booking weighed on metal counters, with Hindalco Industries and Tata Steel leading the decline. Power Grid Corporation, Larsen & Toubro and JSW Steel also finished lower, reflecting weakness in infrastructure and utility stocks.

Conclusion

The benchmark index closed with a mixed sectoral trend, as gains in defensive and financial stocks helped offset losses across metals and infrastructure. UltraTech Cement, Eternal and HDFC Life emerged as the day’s strongest Nifty performers, while Hindalco Industries, Power Grid Corporation and Tata Steel ended among the biggest drags on the index.
