Mumbai, November 4: The National Stock Exchange (NSE) and the Bombay Stock Exchange (BSE) will be closed tomorrow, on November 5. The holiday is in observance of Guru Nanak Jayanti. Hence, investors will be unable to hold transactions in equity, derivatives, securities lending and borrowing, or currency derivatives tomorrow.
The holiday tomorrow marks the second last holiday of the year for the NSE and BSE before the Christmas holiday on December 25. Trading on NSE and BSE will resume on November 6.
MCX to Resume Trading in Evening Session
Although both the NSE and BSE will see no trading activity tomorrow, the Multi Commodity Exchange (MCX) will resume trading in the evening session. The morning session of MCX (9:00 AM to 5:00 PM) will remain closed, while the evening session (5:00 PM to 11:30 PM/11:55 PM) will operate as usual.
Significance of Guru Nanak Jayanti
Guru Nanak Jayanti, also known as Gurpurab or Prakash Parv is celebrated to honour the birth of Guru Nanak Dev Ji. He was the first Sikh Guru and founder of Sikhism. The day is marked on the full moon day (Kartik Purnima). The day witnesses Sikhs and other followers carry out early morning prayer and kirtans, and visit Gurudwaras for blessing and to do ‘Seva’ in the langars.
As we celebrate Guru Nanak Jayanti tomorrow, the trading activity will see a pause, with NSE and BSE closed for trading activity. However, investors can trade on the MCX in the evening session. Investors who want to trade on the NSE and BSE can do so on November 6 during normal market hours.
