NTPC Green commissioned the first 64.76 MW of its 225 MW Khavda solar project in Gujarat, taking NTPC Group’s installed capacity to 91,030 MW.

Mumbai July, 24: NTPC said its renewable energy arm has declared commercial operations for the first 64.76 MW capacity of a 225 MW solar project at Khavda in Gujarat, adding another operational tranche to the state-owned power producer’s renewable portfolio.
The capacity forms part of the 225 MW GSECL Renewable Energy Park, Khavda Solar PV Project, which is located at the Gujarat Renewable Energy Park in Khavda. The project is owned by NTPC Green Energy Ltd’s subsidiary, NTPC Renewable Energy Ltd.
According to the exchange disclosure, the 64.76 MW capacity became commercially operational with effect from 00:00 hours on July 24, 2026.
Following the commissioning, NTPC Green Energy’s commercial capacity increased from 10,721.80 MW to 10,786.56 MW, an addition that directly reflects the newly operational capacity.
At the broader group level, NTPC said its total installed capacity now stands at 91,030 MW, while commercial capacity has reached 89,950 MW.
Stock Market snapshot
NTPC share price was at ₹349.15 as of 1:06 PM IST on July 24, 2026, up ₹0.55, or 0.16%, according to exchange market data.
The stock had a mixed session before moving into positive territory. After opening around ₹347, it briefly approached ₹348.50 before slipping below ₹346 during the morning. The shares remained subdued for much of the first half before recovering steadily after 11 AM.

NTPC Expands Renewable Generation Through Khavda Project
The latest commissioning comes through NTPC Green Energy, the listed renewable energy subsidiary of NTPC. NTPC Renewable Energy, which owns the Khavda project, is a step-down subsidiary of the parent company through NTPC Green Energy.
Khavda in Gujarat has emerged as a major location for utility-scale renewable energy development. For NTPC, bringing the project online in stages allows commissioned capacity to enter commercial operation as individual portions become ready rather than waiting for the entire 225 MW project to be completed.
The first 64.76 MW represents roughly 28.8% of the project’s planned 225 MW capacity. The disclosure did not specify a commercial operation schedule for the remaining capacity.
Conclusion
The commercialisation of the first 64.76 MW at Khavda increases NTPC Green Energy’s operating base to 10,786.56 MW and pushes NTPC Group’s aggregate installed capacity to 91,030 MW.
The market reaction remained modest. NTPC shares were trading 0.16% higher at ₹349.15 as of 1:06 PM IST on July 24, 2026, after recovering from losses seen earlier in the session.
