Mumbai, June 2:Petrol and diesel prices remained largely stable across India’s metro cities on Tuesday, with only marginal changes reported in select locations. While fuel rates in New Delhi, Mumbai and Kolkata remained unchanged, Bengaluru recorded the biggest increase in both petrol and diesel prices among major cities. Hyderabad and Thiruvananthapuram remained among the costliest markets for fuel.

Oil prices eased on Tuesday after surging in the previous session, though both benchmark contracts remained near recent highs as traders continued to monitor geopolitical tensions in the Middle East and their potential impact on global energy supplies.

Brent crude futures slipped 0.7% to $94.3 a barrel, while U.S. West Texas Intermediate (WTI) crude fell 0.9% to $91.3. The decline came after both benchmarks rallied more than 5% on Monday amid growing concerns that escalating tensions in the region could disrupt oil supplies and shipping routes.

State-owned fuel retailers last revised pump prices on May 25, marking the fourth increase in 10 days, as a sharp rise in crude oil prices squeezed marketing margins. Petrol prices were raised by ₹2.61 per litre, while diesel rates were increased by ₹2.71 per litre.

Separately, the government has lowered export duties on petrol, diesel and aviation turbine fuel (ATF) for the fortnight starting June 1 following its periodic review of fuel levies. The export duty on petrol has been reduced to ₹1.5 per litre, while duties on diesel and ATF have been cut to ₹13.5 per litre and ₹9.5 per litre, respectively. Excise duties on petrol and diesel sold in the domestic market remain unchanged.

Petrol Prices

Petrol prices remained largely stable across major Indian cities on Tuesday, with no change reported in the four metro cities except Chennai, where prices eased by 5 paise to ₹107.79 per litre. New Delhi continued to see petrol priced at ₹102.12 per litre, while rates in Kolkata and Mumbai held steady at ₹113.47 and ₹111.18, respectively.

Smaller gains were also reported in Gurugram,Chandigarh and Lucknow. On the other hand, Bhubaneswar registered the steepest decline, with prices falling 25 paise to ₹108.81 per litre, while Patna, Noida and Hyderabad witnessed modest cuts. Hyderabad remained the costliest among the listed cities at ₹115.69 per litre, followed closely by Thiruvananthapuram at ₹115.49.

Diesel Prices

Across major state capitals, price movements remained mixed. Bengaluru recorded the sharpest increase, with diesel prices rising 33 paise to ₹98.80 per litre, while Jaipur and Lucknow saw gains of 20 paise and 5 paise, respectively. On the downside, Bhubaneswar registered the biggest decline, with prices falling 25 paise to ₹100.52 per litre, while Patna and Noida saw marginal reductions. Thiruvananthapuram continued to have the highest diesel price among the cities listed at ₹104.40 per litre, followed by Hyderabad at ₹103.82, whereas Chandigarh remained the cheapest at ₹89.47 per litre. The variation in diesel prices across cities largely reflects differences in state-level taxes, dealer commissions and local levies.
