Mumbai, October 12: Petrol and diesel prices remained largely unchanged across major Indian cities on Monday, October 12, with rates varying across states and urban centres. Petrol cost Rs 102.12 per litre in Delhi and Rs 111.21 in Mumbai, while diesel was priced at Rs 95.20 and Rs 97.83 per litre, respectively. Jaipur and Lucknow recorded increases in both fuel prices, while Patna saw a decline.

Crude oil prices declined on Monday as expectations of additional Russian fuel supplies and a proposed energy ceasefire between Russia and Ukraine eased immediate concerns over global supply, although escalating conflict in the Middle East and attacks on oil tankers kept Brent crude above $100 a barrel. Brent crude futures fell 1.5% to $103 per barrel, while US West Texas Intermediate (WTI) crude futures declined 1.8% to $90.2.

The pullback followed US President Donald Trump’s announcement that Russia would supply more diesel to US and global markets, alongside his claim that Russia and Ukraine had agreed to halt attacks on each other’s energy infrastructure. Trump said Russia would initially provide more than 300,000 metric tonnes of diesel, followed by another 500,000 tonnes in November and an additional 1 million tonnes thereafter. ICE gasoil futures, the European benchmark for diesel, fell 3% to $1,436 per tonne.

However, uncertainty over the proposed ceasefire and persistent security threats in the Middle East continued to underpin crude prices. Yemen’s Iran-backed Houthis claimed responsibility for a weekend strike on Riyadh’s international airport, while Saudi Arabia reported another attack on the facility. Trump said Washington was considering joining Saudi strikes against the Houthis, further raising concerns about the potential expansion of the regional conflict.

Attacks on commercial vessels also threatened the recovery in Middle Eastern oil exports. The United Kingdom Maritime Trade Operations agency reported that a tanker was struck by a drone near Oman’s Sohar anchorage, while another was damaged by an unidentified projectile while passing through the Strait of Hormuz. The incidents have heightened concerns over shipping security and the risk of further supply disruptions along a critical route for global energy trade.

For India, a major oil importer, the decline in crude prices could offer some relief on the import bill, inflation and pressure on the rupee, although prices above $100 a barrel continue to pose risks to the domestic economic outlook.

Here is a city-wise breakdown of the latest petrol and diesel rates.
