Mumbai, September 28: Petrol and diesel prices today, September 28, remained largely unchanged across major Indian cities and state capitals, with only minor revisions reported in a few markets. Petrol in Delhi was priced at Rs 102.12 per litre, while diesel stood at Rs 95.20. Mumbai, Kolkata and Chennai continued to record higher petrol and diesel rates, while Hyderabad saw declines in both fuel prices.

Oil prices rose more than 1% on Monday after US President Donald Trump rejected an Iranian proposal aimed at resolving the conflict between the two countries and reopening the Strait of Hormuz, keeping geopolitical risks elevated across the Middle East. Brent crude futures rose 1.8% to $106.2 a barrel while US West Texas Intermediate crude gained 1% to $93.4 a barrel.

Iran had presented a peace proposal at the United Nations General Assembly last week, with the offer transmitted to the US through Qatari mediators. Trump rejected the proposal on Saturday but said on Sunday that US negotiators were expected to hold further talks with Iran this week. The uncertainty over the outcome of those discussions has kept investors focused on the risk to oil supplies through the Strait of Hormuz.

Geopolitical risks remain elevated as attacks involving Iran and the Iran-backed Houthis continue to threaten regional supply flows. Yemen’s Saudi-led coalition said it had intercepted two ballistic missiles and two drones launched by the Houthis towards Saudi Arabia. Analysts said regional supply flows remained vulnerable as tensions persisted.

However, the latest move in oil prices comes despite signs of a recovery in Middle Eastern crude exports. Preliminary Kpler data showed crude exports from key producers in the region rose to 12.8 million barrels per day in September, their highest level since the war began in February. Shipments through the Strait of Hormuz were also expected to reach about 7.4 million barrels per day this month as Saudi Arabia and the UAE increased exports.

Oil markets are also monitoring developments in US refined-product markets. Concerns over record US diesel prices have fuelled debate about possible restrictions on diesel exports, which could tighten supplies outside the US and push up prices in markets such as Europe. Brent gained 0.4% last week, while WTI fell 7.9% amid concerns over a possible US diesel export ban.

Here are the latest petrol and diesel rates across major cities, according to GoodReturns.
