Mumbai, September 29: Petrol and diesel prices today, September 29, remained largely unchanged across major Indian cities and state capitals. In Delhi, petrol was priced at Rs 102.12 per litre and diesel at Rs 95.20 per litre, while Mumbai petrol and diesel rates stood at Rs 111.21 and Rs 97.83 per litre, respectively.

Oil prices extended gains for a second session on Tuesday as concerns over potential disruptions to Middle East supplies outweighed signs of a recovery in crude exports from the region. Brent crude futures rose 1.5% to $106.9 a barrel, while US West Texas Intermediate (WTI) crude gained the same to $93.9 a barrel.

Crude prices remained elevated despite preliminary data showing that exports from major Middle Eastern producers rose to 12.8 million barrels per day in September, the highest level since February. Higher shipments from Saudi Arabia and the United Arab Emirates helped lift regional exports, but concerns remain over the efficiency and cost of transporting crude amid disruptions caused by the US-Iran conflict.

Analysts said higher export volumes were increasingly visible, but much of the additional supply was moving through workarounds such as ship-to-ship transfers. These methods are less efficient and more expensive than normal operations, keeping crude prices elevated.

The US-Iran standoff remained the main source of uncertainty for the energy market, with officials from both sides holding separate discussions through mediators in another effort to end the conflict. Further talks are expected to centre on an amended version of a seven-day proposal put forward by Iran last week.

Analysts said the standoff continued to pose a risk to energy prices and inflation expectations, while reported Iranian pessimism over a deal before the Strait of Hormuz situation escalates further has kept supply concerns elevated. The strategically important waterway is a key route for global oil and gas shipments, making any disruption there a major risk for energy markets.

The continued rise in crude prices could add to inflationary pressures in oil-importing economies and keep markets focused on the broader economic impact of the Middle East conflict. The US is also considering regulatory relief to allow wider sales of red-dyed diesel as part of efforts to lower fuel prices, according to people familiar with the discussions cited by Reuters.
