Mumbai, September 30: Petrol and diesel prices today, September 30, remained largely unchanged across major Indian cities, with no change recorded in Delhi, Mumbai, Kolkata and Bengaluru. However, Bhubaneswar saw petrol and diesel prices fall by Rs 1.52 and Rs 1.47 per litre, respectively, while Jaipur recorded increases in both fuel rates.

Oil prices climbed on Wednesday after US President Donald Trump denied reports that Washington was prepared to ease sanctions on Iran, adding to uncertainty around the outlook for crude supplies from the Middle East. Brent crude futures rose 0.8% to $103.4 a barrel, while US West Texas Intermediate crude gained 0.3% to $89.6.

Brent was headed for a monthly gain of around 14%, its strongest monthly increase since July, while WTI was on track to rise about 4% in September. WTI had breached $106 a barrel earlier in the month, its highest level since May, as the conflict disrupted regional energy flows.

Trump rejected an Axios report that he was willing to offer Tehran sanctions relief and release frozen Iranian funds in exchange for concrete steps on its nuclear programme. Meanwhile, Qatar said it was continuing efforts to broker a breakthrough between Washington and Tehran, keeping the possibility of diplomatic progress in focus for oil markets.

At the same time, crude supply from the region has shown signs of recovery, with Middle East oil exports rebounding in September to 16.328 million barrels per day, their highest level since the US-Israeli war with Iran began in late February. Saudi Arabia has also resumed oil tanker loadings from its Red Sea port of Yanbu after restarting its East-West Pipeline.

Oil prices have also been influenced by uncertainty over potential US restrictions on diesel exports. Such measures could create a domestic diesel surplus and prompt US refiners to cut crude processing, potentially weighing on WTI. The US administration is considering allowing sales of red-dyed diesel instead of imposing an export ban, while markets await official US inventory data.
