New Delhi, Sept 17: Silver rates in India held steady on Thursday for a third consecutive session, with the same two-tier city structure that has now held in place since Tuesday remaining fully intact. The national base rate stayed at ₹245 per gram, ₹2,450 per 10 grams and ₹2,45,000 per kilogram, matching both Tuesday’s and Wednesday’s levels across all ten cities tracked here. Chennai, Hyderabad and Kerala continued to command their ₹50 premium at ₹2,500 per 10 grams, unchanged for a third day running, while the remaining seven cities — Mumbai, Delhi, Kolkata, Bangalore, Pune, Vadodara and Ahmedabad — held flat at ₹2,450.
Three straight flat sessions is an unusually long stretch of unchanged pricing, dealers said, and points to an extended lull in both global cues and local dealer premiums. With Chennai, Hyderabad and Kerala now having held their premium since Tuesday, dealers said the two-tier split looks less like a temporary adjustment and more like a settled pattern that could persist until either global silver prices move meaningfully or festive demand forces dealers to recalibrate city-level premiums.
Silver price in India largely follows international trends since demand and supply here is too thin to sway prices by itself. Demand from industry and investment buyers overseas, coupled with mining supply, determines global silver prices, while currency moves impact the rupee-cost of those imports. Global spot silver again traded in a tight range overnight, dealers said, extending the unusually quiet stretch that has now kept Indian city rates frozen for three sessions running.
Retail buyers have continued to use silver purchases as an entry point into precious metals, and its lower price per gram compared with gold makes it a more accessible buy. With Navratri still a few weeks away and Diwali further out, jewellers said footfall for silver coins, idols and small gift items remained steady rather than surging, a pattern they expect to build as the festive calendar progresses through October, regardless of how flat the metal’s own pricing stays in the interim.
India fetches daily nationwide silver rates from designated dealer forums in each city, compiled and published here each morning. These rates are subject to change by the time you arrive at a jewellery or bullion dealer later in the day, so confirm the price your jeweller will offer before making a purchase.
City-Wise Silver Rates: Yesterday vs Today
The tables below set Wednesday’s (Sept 16) silver rates for 10 major Indian cities against Thursday’s (Sept 17) rates, quoted per 10 grams, per 100 grams and per kilogram. Every single city held exactly flat across all three denominations for the third straight session, with Chennai, Hyderabad and Kerala unchanged at their premium level and the remaining seven cities unchanged at the base rate.

On Thursday, silver rates stand at ₹2,50,000 per kilogram in Chennai, Hyderabad and Kerala, against ₹2,45,000 in the remaining seven cities, exactly where they have stood since Tuesday. Silver jewellery and ornaments typically cost more than the per-gram rates shown here due to making charges, plus a 3% GST levied on metallic silver.
Historically, silver always trades for less than gold on a per gram basis. Investors looking to gain silver exposure without buying the physical metal could check out Silver ETFs in India: https://hdfcsky.com/etf/silver-etf
Silver articles and jewellery typically contain other metals like copper, which let retailers mark up prices at the jewellery store. That’s why investors buying metallic silver should focus on bars and coins instead of jewellery. Pure silver is 999 fine.
Jewellery Stocks Today
Jewellery stocks were uniformly lower on Thursday morning, a notable shift from Wednesday’s session, when at least one counter managed to hold its ground. All four tracked stocks traded in the red this time. Silgo Retail led the decliners, down 1.41%, followed by PN Gadgil Jewellers, off 0.71%, Senco Gold, down 0.23%, and Vaibhav Global, off a marginal 0.12% — the smallest move of the four, but still a decline. Trading was still underway at the time of writing.

Senco Gold opened at ₹348.95, touched an early high of ₹351.00, then slid to a low of ₹342.90 before recovering steadily through the rest of the morning to settle around ₹345.60, trimming most of its earlier losses by the time of writing. PN Gadgil Jewellers opened sharply higher at ₹610.00, pushed on to a high of ₹612.95, then reversed through the late morning to a low of ₹603.20, ending near ₹604.30 as the session’s gains evaporated. Silgo Retail opened at ₹70.62, climbed briefly to a high of ₹71.57, then slid steadily to a low of ₹70.00, leaving it as Thursday’s weakest performer in percentage terms. Vaibhav Global opened at ₹211.42, rallied to a high of ₹212.99 within the first hour, then eased gradually through the rest of the morning to a low of ₹208.03, before a partial late recovery to ₹210.40.
Market watchers said Thursday’s uniformly weaker session among jewellery counters, even as silver’s national pricing stayed frozen for a third straight day, points to a broader bout of profit-booking across the sector rather than any single stock-specific trigger. Dealers noted that PN Gadgil Jewellers and Silgo Retail both gave up strong early gains to end the morning in the red, a pattern that suggests sentiment turned cautious as the session wore on. With every counter now lower and silver itself showing no fresh signal, analysts said the sector looks to be pausing for direction alongside the metal it is built around.
