Mumbai, Sept 21: Silver in India was trading at ₹2,500 per 10 grams nationally on Monday, translating to ₹250 per gram and ₹2,50,000 per kilogram, which tracks daily dealer-forum rates across major cities. Silver price in India is largely determined by international prices, which move the 10-gram rate in either direction through the day, and local demand and supply typically play only a marginal role in shifting city-level rates on their own.

Seven of the ten major cities tracked, Mumbai, Delhi, Kolkata, Bangalore, Pune, Vadodara and Ahmedabad, were quoting silver at ₹2,500 per 10 grams through the morning, unchanged from Friday’s close. Chennai, Hyderabad and Kerala broke higher, jumping to ₹2,600 per 10 grams, up ₹101 from Friday’s ₹2,499, a sharp one-session move that has flipped the city-level pattern seen through last week, when these three markets had briefly slipped a rupee below the seven-city group instead of holding a premium over it.

Retail buyers have continued to treat silver as a lower-cost entry point into precious metals, helped by its far smaller per-gram price compared with gold. Historically, silver always trades for a fraction of gold’s price on a per-gram basis, and investors looking to gain exposure to the metal without the hassle of storage or purity checks could consider Silver ETFs, which track the metal’s price rather than requiring physical delivery.

Silver jewellery and ornaments typically cost more than the flat 10-gram rates listed above once making charges are added, along with a 3 per cent GST levied on metallic silver. Buyers should factor in these additional costs before comparing quoted bullion rates against what a jeweller ultimately charges at the counter. Rates published here are indicative and subject to change through the trading day, so dealers advise confirming the final price with a local jeweller or bullion dealer before any purchase.

India fetches its daily nationwide silver rates from designated dealer forums in each city, compiled and published every morning. Because these prices are subject to revision as global spot silver moves, the figures quoted at the start of trade can differ meaningfully from what a buyer is quoted later in the day, particularly during sessions when international metal markets are volatile.

With Navratri still weeks away and Diwali further out, jewellers said footfall for silver coins, idols and small gift items has remained steady rather than picking up sharply, with most buyers still in a wait-and-watch mode ahead of the festive season proper. A stretch of largely rangebound city rates through the past week has kept near-term buying behaviour muted, dealers said, though any sharp single-session move tends to nudge retail investors who track daily rates closely to bring forward planned purchases rather than wait for prices to climb further. Bulk buyers of coins and bars for gifting later in the year remain the segment most sensitive to these day-to-day swings, jewellers added, since even a modest percentage move translates into a meaningful rupee difference at kilogram-scale purchases.

Jewellery Stocks Today

Shares of listed jewellery and bullion-linked companies were mixed in early trade on Monday, tracking the broader movement in precious metal prices. Of the four counters tracked, Senco Gold and Silgo Retail were trading lower, while PN Gadgil Jewellers held on to modest gains and Vaibhav Global slipped into the red after opening weaker.

Company  Ticker  Price  Change
Senco Gold  SENCO  ₹345.40  -₹2.60 (-0.75%)
PN Gadgil Jewellers  PNGJL  ₹607.00  +₹2.25 (+0.37%)
Silgo Retail  SILGO  ₹70.07  -₹0.73 (-1.03%)

Senco Gold opened at ₹349.80 against Friday’s previous close of ₹348.00, touched an early high of ₹350.05, then slid through the session to a low of ₹344.75 before settling around ₹345.40, a loss of 0.75 per cent with the stock trading below its volume-weighted average price of ₹347.70. PN Gadgil Jewellers was the session’s standout gainer, opening sharply higher at ₹609.90 against a previous close of ₹604.75, rallying to a high of ₹614.95 before easing back to ₹607.00, still comfortably above its VWAP of ₹608.76 and holding a firm 0.37 per cent gain.

Silgo Retail opened flat at ₹70.80, matching its previous close, touched an early high of ₹72.47, then reversed through the morning to a low of ₹69.52 before recovering marginally to ₹70.07, a decline of just over 1 per cent and the session’s weakest performer in percentage terms. Vaibhav Global opened lower at ₹208.42 against a previous close of ₹209.90, briefly touched a high of ₹211.35, then drifted down to a low of ₹208.25 before settling at ₹208.96, ending the morning session down 0.45 per cent and trading just below its VWAP of ₹209.01.

Market watchers said Monday’s mixed session, with two counters higher and two lower, points to stock-specific positioning rather than a uniform read-through from silver prices, which were broadly stable through the morning. Senco Gold and Silgo Retail both followed a similar arc, opening near their previous close before sliding to the day’s low by mid-morning, while PN Gadgil Jewellers’ rally from a strong open stood out as the session’s clearest gainer. Vaibhav Global was the exception among the four, unable to sustain its earlier levels despite touching a high well above its opening price, leaving it among the day’s laggards by the time of writing.
